Gram

You know I wasn't sure

If I would be able to do this today.

I figured no words

Could say what I wanted to say.

But I thought I would try

To explain what my Gram meant to me.

And half as great a Gram

I hope I live up to be.

My grandma was a woman

Unlike anyone I've met.

And she's listening now

Down from heaven I bet.

You know, I've asked people

In this short while,

If they had a favorite memory,

And each said her smile.

Gram had this glow

That would light up people's faces

And in our heart for each

Each has special places.

Everyone here has

A favorite memory of Norma Jean.

I think mine

Is that she's a joke fiend.

Always having a trick

Up her sleeve to play.

And to weasel out of it

She knew just what to say.

It's things like that

That I'll miss most.

How she won in cards

She wouldn't boast

Gram was great at horseshoes

And she made the best lemon pies.

And there was a glow

In her deep blue eyes.

Gram was the rock

That made our family close.

So to you now

I'll make a toast.

Not from a cup

But from my heart.

I'll miss you Gram

But now a new start.

I know your watching

And you see with tears my eyes are full

But I know now Gram

That you're my guardian angel.

I'll miss you Gram

I'm saying it now,

I miss you Gram,

I'm saying it out loud.

Nichole's grandmother was definitely a character. She has a big heart and believed in all the old wife's tale remedies for this or that, and she was usually right. I know Nichole loved her very much and it was very hard for her to write this poem. She loved to sit and listen to her Grandmother's stories of her past. One of the ones she liked the most was that her Grandmother knew how to fly an airplane. She is missed by many people.

Thanks for continuing Nichole's journey, please take a moment to vote.
