The Struggle I'm Losing

Threatened by people

No face can I look,

When you did what you did

My confidence you took.

Eager to please me

And touch my face.

After you got what you wanted

You left a space.

An empty void

That I just can't fill.

I want to move on

But I don't have the will.

Confined to this place

I am now,

Your such an actor,

Take a bow.

Be proud of the work

You did here.

How do you live with yourself

Or even look in the mirror?

I give up

I no longer want loves light.

Because when the candle stops

For confidence I fight.

A struggle I'm losing

With each passing day,

Maybe a torch will someday light

And show me the way.

I never really thought much about a candle burning being compared to love, until after reading Nichole's poetry. What I take from it is, as a candle burns it is bright and beautiful, often times smelling so wonderful and lighting a room in such a romantic way. Isn't that how love feels when it is new and fresh? Then the candle burns out and what's left behind is the deformed candle that once stood tall, the awful smell of something that had been burning, melted wax and soot. That's love all tattered and in ruins. Man, my daughter's thoughts were deep!

I am very grateful that you have traveled so far on Nichole's journey with me. I hope you continue the journey with me. We have rounded the bend and will reach our final destination soon. Please vote if you enjoyed this poem.
