"Don't I at least get a thank you?" She shaked her head "You've got no manners Princess"
"What is with you and nicknames?" I retorted "And don't call me Princess!"
"Oh I am so sorry Luuuun" She drawled out giggling "It's just so funny how you react"
"I hate you" I muttered
"The feeling is mutual" She responded finishing her food. I turned away and finished mine too. Silence filled the campsite except for the sounds of the forest. Birds chittered and the leafs moved in the breeze.
"Are you guys done?" we both jumped and turned to glare at the small vampire who had just landed in the campsite from above
"Yes!" Elryria barked "Don't do sneak up on us like that!" Her demon even looked ruffled its tail puffed and high in the air.
"Sorry" She said her eyes wide.
"You didn't even make a sound. Vampires are fucking creepy" Elryria muttered as she put out the fire. I pack my bag up quickly and turn to Mera
"How far are we from Greta?" I asked
"An hour or two if my map is correct" She replied "We should be able to free her today"
"If she's that close why has no one else found her" Elryria grumbled
"Like you said yesterday. No one wants to come out here or really needs to" Mera replied "You said this place is creepy and many people agree with you" I nodded looking up at the giant trees. Even when I was up there I wasn't even close to seeing the sky. You'd have to go a way up to be able to see the tree line. It meant the forest was cold and dark even in the middle of Vita's months. Not to mention that now that the sun had risen, the birds had stopped making any noise, and the forest was silent. How the vampire found it comforting I don't know.
"Well let's go then" I said facing the two of them "I don't want to be here any longer than necessary"
"No kidding. I hope the others, if there are any others, are not here" Elryria said. Mera just shrugged and picked up her sword which still looked far too big and her bag.
"Well" I said "Lead on"

Mera was right. It only took us an hour and a half to find Greta. We arrived at a clearing and there the owl was. Her body suspended far above the ground and held up by giant metal chains that attach to the trees. Her wings of white, brown and blue were held by smaller chains and attached to bigger ones. Her beak was tied shut and her eyes were closed. No one appeared to have been guarding her.
"Wait" Mera whispered "Someone is coming, hide" we did as suggested and watched as two people came out into the clearing. They looked up at the bird nodded to each other and turned back into the forest. I go to follow but I feel a hand grab my arm. I turned and the witch is there
"We don't need to go after them" she whispered "We just need to get the bird"
"We can do both" I whispered back "I need to follow them"
"No you don't and you can't anyway they're gone" She said smugly. I turn and see they have gone out of sight. I turned to glower at her
"Fine then I will go get the owl" I said pulling my arm out of her hold
"What are you going to do? Fire at the chains with your guns?" She laughed
"Oh and what you'll just 'magic' it apart. For some reason I don't think that'll work" I scoffed
"Why not" She said glaring at me
"Hm let me think maybe because if it could be 'magicked' away the bird would have by now" I rolled my eyes "It is a familiar, you know"
"Shut up you idiot" She said "At least I can try something, you think you can break those chains?"
"If I put my mind to it. I'm sure there is a way to get them down" I said crossly
"Oh yes, you put your big Overworld mind to the test" Elryria mocked "Maybe if you think hard enough they'll break by themselves though I doubt it. You can't be that smart if you are a pirate"
"Shut your mouth" I growled "I'm not a pirate and for your information I was suppose to be in the best university in the country"
"Well good for you sweetheart" She said patting my head "If only that was going to help" I swatted her hand away and glared at her
"At least I'm not a stupid little girl who made a deal with a demon" I barked "You're no worse than I, I bet you made that deal just so you could be strong. You are a selfish piece of shit!"
"You take that back!" She yelled her voice echoing "You don't know shit. You act all high and mighty but you are just like me. A criminal that no one wants! Even the Chief doesn't want you. Why do you think he sent you here?"
"Shut the fuck up!" I bellowed "Vita----" I am about to curse her when a loud crash fills the clearing. We both turn and see the chains lying on the floor broken in parts. We look up and Greta lands next to us and fluffed her feathers. Mera landed quietly on the ground her sword in hand and walked over to us
"What the fuck?" Elryria murmured staring at the broken chains. They were even bigger up closer. Easily my width and at least a foot thick. I looked to Mera
"What happened?" I asked staring at her.
"You guys were arguing so I freed Greta" She said tilting her head
"You freed Greta" I repeated "How?"
"I cut the chains" She said "How else? What did you think broke them?"
"It's impossible" Elryria muttered "You're tiny!"
"But I have a large sword" She said smiling as she gestured to the sword in her hand "It makes breaking things so much easier"
"Watch her closely" I staged whispered to Elryria "She might try to break us next"
"Hey!" Mera complained making the both of us laugh

So Mera is a force to be reckoned with, isn't she? I love her. She is so small and need so much protection. Except she doesn't. Or does she........?
