Riliane froze. Her fingers tightened on the hilt of her knife, but she couldn't move, not yet. Memories pressed in-his orders, his manipulations, the weight of his voice inside her head.
"Let them go," she said, forcing strength into her words.
Crowley tilted his head, smirk tugging at his lips. "See, that's the problem. You always ask so nicely, and yet..." His gaze shifted to the brothers. "They're leverage, And I'm very good at using leverage."
Dean strained against the chains. "If you so much as touch her-"
"Please, Squirrel, don't embarrass yourself." Crowley waved a hand, tightening Dean's chains with a groan of metal. Dean hissed but didn't cry out.
Riliane's chest burned with rage, her telekinesis sparking just under her skin, but fear held her back. Crowley saw it too. He leaned closer, voice low.
"You remember what you were with me. Strong. Untouchable. But you left that behind for them." He sneered. "Pathetic sentiment. Love. Family. All the things that make you weak."
"I'm not yours anymore," she snapped, louder than she meant to.
Crowley's smile thinned, but his eyes glittered with something darker. "Maybe not. But you're still useful. And so is dear old Moose."
Sam's head jerked up. Crowley circled behind him, whispering near his ear. "You know it, don't you? Deep down. The power still calls to you. Your demon blood-the only thing strong enough to put me in the ground. Without it, you'll never win."
Sam's jaw clenched. He didn't respond, but Riliane saw the flicker in his eyes.
"Don't listen to him!" she shouted, taking a step forward.
Crowley smirked, satisfied at the crack he'd made. Then, with a snap of his fingers, the chains released. Sam and Dean stumbled forward, free but wary. Crowley gave them a mocking bow.
"Consider this round a warning. I'm not done yet." His eyes lingered on Sam before he vanished in a hiss of smoke.
Silence filled the warehouse, broken only by the brothers' ragged breathing.
Dean gritted his teeth. "We need to hunt him down before he tries this again."
Riliane nodded, but her gaze drifted to Sam. He was too quiet, too still.
"Sam?" she asked softly.
"I'm fine," he said quickly, avoiding her eyes. "Let's get out of here."
But later, when night fell and the bunker grew still, Sam slipped away. He tracked a demon to the outskirts of town, cornered it, and without hesitation, drove the knife through its heart. The blood pooled dark and hot, and for the first time in years, Sam bent his head and drank.
It burned down his throat, bitter and powerful, reigniting a strength he'd sworn he'd buried. He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, breath harsh.
Crowley had given him the key. And Sam intended to use it.
