Chapter 1

~*~

Author POV

Jimin had always been special, well that is what his parents told him anyway. Everyone was born with abilities, that had always been the way of things. Jimin was sure everything under the sun had been covered by abilities these days. Some powers were small, the ability to see farther distances for example, but there were big ones too, able to destroy cities in minutes, Jimin tries not to dwell on that too hard.

Jimin was seen as special by most, an average ability he would say. The ability to diagnose an injury or illness immediately and know how to treat it most effectively. When he had fallen over in the playground at school and dressed his own wound better than the first aid trained staff that had been the first indication. When he had gone to hospital for an illness long since forgotten in his childhood, his parents had watched in equal parts awe and embarrassment as he pointed at each patient in the waiting room and labelled off medically diagnoses for each of them with frightening accuracy.

Becoming a doctor had been the natural course for his parents to push him in, Jimin had never protested against it. He enjoyed the course, even if the hours often left him dead on his feet. His parents who didn't have a lot had spent their well earned money pushing Jimin with everything they had towards his dream. Towards their dream, Jimin often heard them bragging over the phone to relatives, although it bothered him a little, he did not stop them, this was their way of showing pride in his achievements.

Jimin's high grades had managed to land himself a scholarship, a university far out of his price range. He would look fondly upon his time at the university, he was now a little more than half way through his residency, something he would be trapped in until his mid 30s. At the age of 29 he was content with his life, a successful career, his dream job and proud parents. That is why when he received the letter that would uproot all of that he had never anticipated the way his entire world would be altered.

The letters wording was formal, nothing that Jimin was unused to. The South Korean's governments emblem was stamped on the letter declaring its authenticity.

"What is that my dear?" Jimin's mother was dishing up the dinner into little bowls.

"A letter from the government" Jimin's eyes quickly scanned the text pulling out the key points, a skill he had picked up from reading hundreds of patient reports.

"What does it say?" His father's furrowed brow greeted him across the table.

"It wants to propose a deal regarding my residency at the hospital, it doesn't detail anything else though. But there is a meeting time tomorrow, 3pm they will pick me up from my work place where they will explain the rest that cannot be put into writing." Jimin scanned the letter, summarising for his parents.
