❂ One week later ❂

I was staring at myself in the mirror trying to build up my confidence. I was still a bit too nervous about school.

Ok. I can do this. What am I saying? I have do this. No getting out of it now, I have to go to school. I got this it's no big deal, just a fun learning experience.

For humans it's like a recovering drug addict going to school with heroin and telling him he can't touch any of it. But I know I have to get better.

I stepped away from the mirror grabbed my keys from the counter and left for school. Finding my car in the mess of vehicles in the parking garage was the absolute worst. Especially for someone who confuses every silver car she sees with hers. I was almost late for my first day, it really wouldn't have mattered all too much because school had started months ago.

Ok. Here goes nothing. I thought as I pulled up to the high school. I opened the car door and was automatically hit with a million different intoxicating scents.

Oh my god. No I can't do this. I got back in the car and slammed the door shut. After five minutes of sheer panic and terror I got up the courage to walk out. I took it slowly, one step at a time.

Yeah, that's it right foot, left foot, right foot, left foot. I eventually made it to the doors but the aromas only got stronger. It was so bad I had to stop breathing ( not that hard when your a... you know what).

I had already memorized my schedule: Ap Spanish, Art, U.S. history, lunch, Language arts, Ap Bio, Pre calc, and P.E.

I walked to my spanish class I had
Mrs. Shirley. I was told to find a seat. The teacher began to give the lecture when I scan the room and stopped when I came to one person.

He was a boy with warm dark brown hair, a fair completion, and the brightest blue eyes I've ever seen. It was weird because I felt like I knew him. His name, what was his name? I couldn't remember right now but I really felt like I knew him. He seemed very well known, at least the crowd of students around him, each one of them desperate to get his attention, made me think so.

I just hope that I can keep myself distracted so I won't think of the hunger.

I go to a few more classes and then lunch rolls around, barf. I used to love this stuff: pizza and brownies, but now it doesn't taste like anything nor does it satisfy me. I was looking around and I must admit the walking human buffets around me were extremely tempting.

In the end I forced myself to endure it, I took the tray with a smile and sat wherever I found room. Nothing too terribly interesting happened... that is until 7th period.

Every one was dressed in uniform on the bleacher rows closest to the football field. I'm not sure why because all we did was sit in the blazing sun for forty-five minutes listening to procedures.

The only ones who aren't on the bleachers were the football players and the cheerleaders. The real high school experience, yay... note the sarcasm. It was actually quite a disgusting display: sweaty jocks running around a field and a bunch of overexposed girls twirling in the air.

I'm not sure why but I kept watching. The guys were running laps and the girls were doing cartwheels. I know know why they we're smiling it looked easy. I was probably only saying that because my abilities gave me an unfair advantage.

There was one guy that fell on the track. His knee hit the hard floor and when he got up it was obvious that he had skinned it. Blood. I uncontrollably thought. One jock ran to help him up while another walked over to the coach to tell him what had happened. By now the smell of the blood had reached me and I was hanging on to the bleachers hard so I wouldn't leap out at the injured boy.

The guy that went to tell the coach was now explaining the situation. It took me a while but I realized it was the boy from class. I had both spanish and bio with. The one with the blue eyes, oh what was his name? Just then it came to me.

It was Hayes, my friend from elementary and sixth grade. We used to hang out everyday until I had to move away. We were best friends. The boy's name was Hayes Grier.

He looked me straight in the eye. He had an expression on his face, it was a look of curiosity and intrigue mixed with something else but I wasn't sure what. He kept looking at me, but I left almost immediately because I couldn't stand the blood anymore. I grabbed by bag, ran down a few steps and onto the path that led to the main building but I could still feel his eyes on me.

I made it into the building. I don't think I can do this. I'm not strong enough. I started panting. I fed before I left this morning so I should be ok until later tonight. Just then the bell rang. My salvation. I walked quickly to my car and drove home.

I just hope that tomorrow will be a little less eventful.

I just wanted to add that views in this book are not my own but the characters' and that they are not a true reflection of myself, or of others.
