where i'm safe

kai's pov

i wake up in my own bed, wrapped in my shark blanket, skye tucked under my arm. It's warm and quiet, but i miss sleeping with aria. i frown and get up to go brush my teeth before checking to see if my mom is home.

i see her making breakfast in the kitchen. i don't say anything, just sit on my phone and watch youtube until she's done.

"good morning to you too,kai." she says jokingly.

"good morning,mum. i'm hungry. what are you making?" i ask her rubbing my belly. "it smells yummy. can i have some?" i say all at once.

"i'm making french toast honey. of course you can have some. did you make your bed?"

i nod my head slowly and hesitantly, squinting my eyes at her. i didn't make my bed.

"kai, go now" she says firmly.

"fine!" i say rushing to my room to make my bed so i can eat some french toast.

i make my bed and lay skye on it before running back downstairs.

"done!" i shout and she puts a plate of french toast in front of me.

"thank you" she says putting a plate of food in front of me. she made french toast with some sausage and fruit on the side.

"thanks mum." i smile.

i eat all my breakfast and wash the dishes for my mum before going into the shower. i sigh sitting on the shower floor. i miss aria.

i get out and go get my phone off the dresser to see if she texted me. aria has been busy at work because there is a new employee. so busy that when i go to the library i can't even get to talk to her!

yay! she texted me!

"good morning baby girl. are you awake? mama misses you. "

i smile before responding.

"i miss you too mommy!"

i put my phone down and put clothes on before opening her message again.

"are you being a good girl?"

hm. i sigh and think.

"i'm trying. i made my bed and helped my mom wash dishes. but i don't wanna. i miss you."

"i miss you too, sweetheart. so, so much.
i'm proud of you for helping out at home today. you're my good girl!"

i roll onto my tummy, kicking my feet behind me as I text back.

"can i come back to your house after your work days are done?"

"of course, lovebug. just a couple more days, and i'll pick you up again."

"okay mama"

"okay baby, take your afternoon nap,okay?" i'll call you when i get home. love you.

"okay mama, love you too."

and that's how it's been since for the past week. just texting all day and then a call before bed.

i sigh and lay down to take my nap like mommy said.
