"Okay so you're saying we have to stop Raven from killing this guy or else they'll make robots with her DNA that could kill us all in the future?" I asked, trying to reiterate what Logan had just explained to me as he drove.
"Pretty much. But we need Charles's help. He'll know where to find her," Logan stated. I nodded grimly, looking down at my hands. "Hey can I ask you somethin'?"
"Go for it," I shrugged, staring out the window.
Logan kept his eyes forward as he spoke, "I know you and Charles were a thing back then. So why are you so reluctant to seeing him?"
"Hence the word 'were'. A few years back we were practically glued to each other. But I guess you could say we just drifted apart. He's the kind of guy who always wants to do something, save people, ya know? I just wanted a normal, basic life," I muttered, now looking down at my hands the whole time. I took a deep breath, "So I left. And we haven't spoken since. That's why I'm so hesitant to go back."
We sat there in silence for a while, listening to nothing but the rustling of the trees and the sound of the roaring engine. I hadn't spoken to anyone about that in practically decades. It felt strange just letting that all out finally, like when you've been stuck home all day and you finally go outside to get some fresh air. It's new, but pleasant.
"We're here," Logan mumbled as the car slowed down. I glanced up to see a familiar white gate, with black outlining. A small 'X' joined both sides of the gate and a 'Private Property, Keep Out' sign was plastered on the side.
I took a deep breath. Logan glanced at me, his eyes shaded by his sunglasses, "Ya ready?"
Even though I clearly wasn't, I nodded. It was time to suck it up. He drove on more slowly, pushing past the gate. Hidden in the grass was a small sign that must've fallen off, which stated, "Xavier's School for the Gifted."
I remembered hearing about him starting up a school. He seemed to be doing so well, until the war in Vietnam broke out. Apparently, many of his staff were drafted into the war and the school hadn't been doing so well. I could see how that ended.
As he drove to the front door, circling around the trimmed bush that was in the shape of an 'X' inside a circle, I started to get second thoughts. "Maybe I should just wait here, and if you need me, you can just like yell or something."
"You've got to be kidding me," Logan frowned, obviously not amused. I shook my head nervously. Slamming his hand on the steering wheel, he sighed, "Fine. I won't take too long."
I nodded and he got out of the car, slamming the door behind him. As I watched him walk toward the entrance, I slid down in my seat, hiding my self from sight.
The first few minutes were quiet. All I could hear was whispers from Logan and who I presumed to be Hank. Then, I heard the door swing open and their voices got louder. Sooner or later, I heard banging and what sounded like bones crunching. I cringed in disgust. Maybe I should go help. I sighed and walked over to the door, which was slightly left open.
As I opened the door, the voices became more clear and familiar. "Well tell who ever it was that sent you that I'm busy," said a man with shaggy brown hair down to his shoulders and a scruffy beard.
"Hey I heard yelling, everything okay?" I asked, walking in slowly. I narrowed my eyes at the man, trying to figure out who he was. He looked so familiar.
"Iz?" the man asked, still gripping tight onto his glass of what looked like beer as he squinted at me. He had the same blue eyes I used to wake up to see every morning, the same English accent that made my heart melt, and he even called me by my nickname. Was that really Charles?
"What happened to you?" My eyes widened. And he wasn't even in a wheel chair anymore. Something was definitely off.
"You look well. Still young and vibrant," he slightly smiled, taking another swig of his beer. It was only ten in the morning and he was already drunk of his rocker. Sheesh. He pointed to Logan, "Did you send this guy here?"
"No um, we came here together. That's Logan," I stated. His look of shock turned into a look of disappointment. Did he think I meant we were together?
"Oh," was all he replied with, averting his eyes from my direction.
"Look this may be hard to believe, but the person who sent me, was you," Logan implied.
Charles set his glass beside him and had a look of pure disbelief, "What?"
"About fifty years from now," Logan added.
"Fifty years from now? Like in the future fifty years from now?"Charles had a slight smirk on his face, clearly thinking this was a joke.
"Yeah," Logan agreed.
"I sent you from the future," Charles still couldn't grasp it. "And Iz here too?"
"Yeah. Well not exactly her. She's from the future too but like about 25 years apart from me. She helped me time travel here."
Hank was in his beast form, but still had on a yellow shirt with a red hoodie over. He shook his head in disbelief.
"Piss off," Charles muttered in annoyance and took another sip of his drink.
"If you had your powers, you would've known I was telling the truth," Logan looked back at him with a serious expression. He didn't have his powers?
"How do you know I don't have my-Who are you?" Charles squinted his eyes at Logan.
"I told you," Logan replied.
"You CIA?" Charles narrowed his eyes in suspicion.
"No."
"You've been watching me?"
"Jesus Charles, you know damn well I wouldn't bring the CIA here with me. Now just, hear us out," I finally spoke up, tired of his persistent questioning.
"I know you Charles. We've been friends for years," Logan took a step forward, "I know your powers came when you were nine. I know you thought you were going crazy when it started. With all the voices in your head and it wasn't until you were twelve that you realized all the voices you were hearing were in everyone else's head. Do you want me to go on?"
Charles expression became grim and questionable. He was shocked Logan knew so much about his past. "The only person I've told that too was Isabelle. And I know she wouldn't dare share my secrets with anyone."
