The next recording day came too fast.
Today's concept was Random Couple Missions. The producers had written cute challenges in folded notes: hand-holding, piggybacks, feeding each other, heart poses typical fluff for fans to swoon over.
Beomgyu stretched lazily backstage. "Please let me get Yeonjun-hyung again," he mumbled, mostly to himself, spinning the note jar slowly.
But fate had other plans.
"Okay," the PD announced. "First pair Beomgyu and... Taehyun!"
Beomgyu blinked. "Oh?"
Yeonjun blinked too.
"And Yeonjun," the PD continued, "You'll be paired with Soobin."
Yeonjun smiled on cue. "Let's go, leader-nim," he joked, nudging Soobin's arm.
But his chest tightened.
He wasn't sure why.
( Hueningkai will be paired with me ) 😏
⸻
The first mission: "Compliment your partner for 10 seconds straight."
Taehyun turned to Beomgyu and said in his usual calm tone, "You're loud. But in a good way. You bring life to the room. And chaos. But people love it."
Beomgyu grinned. "Awwww~ Taehyunn~ You do care!"
Meanwhile, Yeonjun laughed with Soobin, forcing his usual charm.
But his eyes without meaning to kept flicking back to Beomgyu.
The way Beomgyu leaned into Taehyun's space.
The way he laughed, genuinely.
The way Taehyun casually touched his hair and didn't pull away.
Why did that bother him?
Why did his jaw clench?
Why did it feel like the cameras were capturing a moment that didn't belong to him anymore?
⸻
Later, in the dressing room, Yeonjun pulled off his mic pack with a little too much force.
Beomgyu walked in, sipping iced coffee, cheeks flushed. "Whew, Taehyun's so serious but he's got secret charm, huh?"
Yeonjun didn't answer.
Beomgyu noticed.
"You okay?"
Yeonjun gave him a look. "Why wouldn't I be?"
Beomgyu blinked. "Uh... dunno. You look annoyed."
"I'm not."
"You sure?" Beomgyu tilted his head, a teasing lilt in his voice. "Don't tell me... you're jealous?"
Yeonjun turned sharply. "Of what?"
Beomgyu shrugged. "Of me and Taehyun?"
Yeonjun scoffed. "Why would I be jealous of fake fanservice?"
Beomgyu paused.
Something shifted in his expression. A flicker of hurt? Disbelief?
"I didn't think it was fake," he said softly. "Not all of it."
Yeonjun froze.
Silence.
Heavy.
Real.
Then Beomgyu looked away, gripping his coffee a little tighter. "Forget it."
He walked out.
Leaving Yeonjun staring after him heart racing, lips parted, thoughts crashing like waves.
Because deep down, maybe he was jealous.
And maybe, just maybe, it was because he didn't want their moments to be for the fans anymore.
Maybe he wanted them just for himself.
