Chapter 1

The herald’s voice, sharp and metallic as a drawn sword, cleaved through the murmuring crowd packed into the Royal Plaza. Princess Azazel Teufel of the Northern Dukedom!” he boomed, the title dripping with venomous irony. Below the high balcony where the Royal Family stood like statues carved from ice, the masses hushed, a sea of upturned faces etched with morbid fascination. “For your crimes against the Crown–conspiracy, attempted murder of Crown Prince Arthur Kaiser and Countess Rosalyne Rozanov, and high treason against the Royal bloodline–you are hereby sentenced to death.” A collective intake of breath hissed through the square. The herald paused, letting the weight of judgment settle, before delivering the final blow: “The penalty is quartering.”

A ripple of shock, then a wave of horrified whispers, surged through the crowd. Gasps turned to muttered curses, expressions twisting from curiosity into disgust and outrage. On the balcony, the Royal Family remained impassive, their features masks of chilly disdain. Only the slight curl of the Queen’s lip hinted at a cruel amusement. Beside her, Crown Prince Arthur Kaiser stood rigid, his gaze fixed on the figures below with the absolute coldness of glacial ice. Countess Rosalyne Rozanov, pale but composed beside him, flinched almost imperceptibly as her eyes found the bound form of Prince Cecilion Teufel. Cecilion…” The name escaped her lips, a breath so faint it was lost to all but Arthur. He didn’t turn, didn’t acknowledge it. Mercy? For traitors who plotted his death and the kingdom’s ruin? His eyes, narrowed and unforgiving, remained locked on Azazel Teufel.

“We have further evidence,” the herald continued, silencing the crowd once more, “implicating Grand Duke Adolf Teufel and Prince Cecilion Teufel as co-conspirators. Records detailing their treacherous plans to overthrow the Crown and seize the throne have been secured.” This confirmation ignited the crowd’s fury anew. Shouts of “Traitors!” and “Hang them all!” began to punctuate the din.

“The sentence will be carried out three days hence!” the herald finished, his pronouncement echoing off the stone facades. Rough hands seized the ropes binding the three condemned Teufels. Blindfolded, hands wrenched painfully behind their backs, they were jerked forward, stumbling blindly on the unforgiving stone. Grand Duke Adolf stumbled, his aristocratic bearing shattered into raw humiliation. Cecilion moved with a terrifying stillness, a prince reduced to a puppet. And Azazel… Azazel Teufel held her head fractionally higher than the rest, even in blindness and defeat, a final, defiant spark before the inevitable extinguishing.

As the guards dragged the broken remnants of the Northern Dukedom away, stark white letters materialized across the screen, jarringly cheerful against the grim scene:

[GOOD ENDING!]

Azazel blinked, pulling her gaze from the laptop screen propped on her knees. Her dorm room, cluttered with books and empty energy drink cans, felt suddenly mundane after the high drama of the pixelated execution decree. “... What the fuck is this?” she muttered, her voice flat with profound disappointment. She’d spent hours meticulously navigating the Crown Prince’s route in ‘Crimson Thorns and Sable Lies,’ anticipating a payoff worthy of the intricate political maneuvering and simmering tension. This abrupt, brutal finale felt… cheap. Rushed.

“Fun, right?” chirped a voice beside her. Lukas, her perpetually lounging best (and arguably only) friend, materialized from the doorway. He wore faded band merch and an expression of pure amusement.

“No,” Azazel stated, closing the laptop lid with a soft click. “It's shit.” She sighed, rubbing the bridge of her nose. “Seriously. Four hours. For that.”

“You just have no taste,” Lukas retorted, flopping dramatically onto the bed beside her. He burrowed into her duvet, sighing in contentment as the cool cotton met his skin. “Ahhh, that's the spot. Absorbing the chill.” He wriggled deeper.

“The story was good,” Azazel conceded, leaning back against the headboard. “Up until the last third. The buildup was fantastic–the intrigue, the shifting alliances, Arthur’s whole ‘ice prince with a hidden fire’ schtick. But the ending? It felt like the writer just threw darts at a board labeled ‘Medieval Punishments’ and called it a day.” She gestured vaguely at the closed laptop. “Azazel Teufel, revealed as the mastermind all along? Fine. But the instant downfall? The immediate, over-the-top sentence? It lacks finesse.”

Lukas propped himself up on an elbow, peering at her with bright eyes. “Cut them some slack! You know the writer died before finishing the last arc. The publishers patched together the ending from her notes. It’s still a killer story, pun absolutely intended.” His grin turned mischievous. “Besides, you haven't even seen the best part yet. Girl, press the spacebar.”

Azazel arched a skeptical eyebrow. “There's more? After the ‘Good Ending’ fanfare?”

“Uh-huh!” Lukas nodded vigorously, practically vibrating with glee. “The execution scene. Optional content, unlocked after the ending. And oh man...” He shuddered theatrically, but his eyes sparkled. “It's chilling. Visceral. They don't show everything, obviously, but the atmosphere? The sounds? The implication? Pure nightmare fuel. Disgusting. Horrifying.” He leaned closer, lowering his voice conspiratorially. “Exactly your brand of messed-up, Az. Blood, gore, despair–the whole twisted package.”

A flicker of interest, undeniable and dark, passed through Azazel's dark eyes. She couldn't deny the morbid curiosity Lukas had just ignited. Seeing the mechanics of that sentence, the culmination of the villainess's arc… especially a villainess bearing her name. “Hmph,” she grunted, a noncommittal sound that didn't fool Lukas for a second. “Maybe later. Right now, my stomach is staging a rebellion. I haven't eaten since breakfast, and conquering Prince Arthur’s icy heart took longer than storming a castle.” She swung her legs off the bed, standing and stretching.

“Also,” she added, picking up the laptop and placing it carefully on her cluttered nightstand, “still weird they used my name for the psycho villainess. Had to restart the whole damn game just to name the protagonist something else. ‘Azazel’ was already taken, apparently… by the character destined to be pulled apart by horses.”

Lukas chuckled, rolling onto his back. “Right? But you gotta admit, it fits. ‘Azazel Teufel’ just screams ‘sinister mastermind’. Major props for the plot twist, though. Totally blindsided me. I spent half the game thinking Azazel was gonna be this smoldering, morally grey capture target–the bad boy you could maybe redeem with love.” He sighed dramatically, a hand fluttering to his chest. “Imagine my devastation when the big reveal dropped: not a brooding prince, but a she. And irredeemably evil. My romantic dreams, crushed!”

Azazel snorted, heading towards the door. “Your romantic dreams involve pixelated bad boys with daddy issues and a penchant for regicide. Priorities, Lukas.” She paused, hand on the doorknob. “You coming? I'm thinking greasy diner food.”

“Only if you promise to watch the execution scene after,” Lukas bargained, scrambling off the bed. “I need to see your reaction to the… squelching.”

“Later,” Azazel repeated, pushing the door open. The mundane reality of the hallway outside–the smell of instant noodles from a neighboring room, the distant thump of bass–was a stark contrast to the digital bloodbath she’d left on pause. But the image of the condemned princess, blindfolded and defiant, lingered in her mind, a dark promise Lukas had ensured she wouldn't easily forget. The gore could wait; the hunger demanded immediate attention!
