Itachi looks away, guilt creeping in. "I suspected something like that. But I didn't want to believe it."

Sasuke lets out a bitter laugh. "Of course not. Why would you? It's easier to believe she just lost her damn mind and killed everyone for 'power'."

"She didn't lose her mind. She made a choice. Just like we did."

"I didn't make a choice!" Sasuke snaps. "I was a pawn in your bullshit. In her bullshit. She looked me dead in the eyes like she was ready. Like she was proud of me for doing it."

"She was," Itachi mutters.

Sasuke's voice cracks. "That's so fucked."

Neither of them speaks.

"She really wanted us to go back," Sasuke whispers. "Wanted us to be recognized as heroes. Like some fairytale. Thought she could clean the blood off our names using hers."

Itachi nods once. "She thought that was enough."

Sasuke sits suddenly, feeling everything hit him at once.

"I killed my sister," he says quietly. "And that's exactly what she wanted."

The memory crashes over him like a wave:

"I love you. You don't have to forgive me, Sasuke."

The sharingan ignites within her eyes as she blinks at the ceiling above her. Her body aches, not like it's injured but instead rebooted.

She slowly sits up in the coffin. Then, as always, the voice hits.

"Well. That was dramatic."

Her eyes narrow.

"Kami."

Smirk. "Still here. Surprised you are too. Thought the sword through the chest would've done the trick."

"You died," Kami says, tone annoyingly casual. "Well. Almost. You were close. But I told you.. this body adapts. You really thought you beat the clock?"

"Fuck you," she mutters. "Of course, I'm still alive. Why wouldn't I be?"

Kami hums. "There it is. That fire. Knew it wasn't gone."

She scowls, "You don't get to be proud of me."

"I'm not proud. I'm observing. Pride's a mortal thing."

"You don't get to act like this is funny!" she snaps. "You knew I didn't want this!"

"Of course I knew. I'm the god, remember?"

Y/N clenched her fists. "I didn't ask for this power. Or your blood. Or your sick little experiment."

"Ron's idea," Kami says flatly, not liking her tone. "I just like chaos."

She rolls her eyes, "Oh great. Let's blame Ron now. That makes it so much better."

"Blame whoever you want. The process started the moment you landed here."

Y/N stood slowly, grabbing the coffin for balance. "I don't feel like myself. Everything is too loud. The ground. The chakra. Even the air."

"You're hearing the world differently now," Kami said, voice beginning to dull. "Not many get past the reset point."

"What's that?"

"The moment a person stops being part of a world.. and starts standing above it."

"Okay, so why me?"

"Wrong question."

"Fine. Then what am I?"

A pause.

"..Still figuring it out," Kami said, tone light again. Too light. "But hey, you're handling it better than the last one."

"There was someone before me?"

"Briefly."

"What happened to them?"

".. They stopped adapting."

Y/N closes her eyes. Migraine seeping through. Her heartbeat didn't sound like it belonged to her anymore. "Great."

She opened her eyes again, voice bitter. "So what now? You just follow me around dropping cryptic bullshit while I spiral?"

"No, no," Kami says, mock-offended. "I check in, make sure you don't explode. Or rip a hole in time. Or accidentally rewrite someone's DNA. But mostly? I just enjoy the show."

She lets out another bitter laugh, "Of course you do."

Kami didn't laugh back.

"You should get going," Kami says, flatly. "Obito's on his way back. He's gonna be real confused when he sees his funeral arrangements walking around."

Y/N steadies herself, exhaling slowly.

"He's not the only one."
