My Only Exception

Chapter 3 : Reminiscences

"This reminds me..." Sky's voice finally breaks the silence between them, which had stretched for some ten minutes as they were eating.

Nani raised his eyes, looking at Sky, "of what?"

"The Grab Food mini series .." Sky smiled, happy that Nani finally met his eyes. Nani coughed, almost choking on his steak.

He looked at Sky with a mixture of shyness and disbelief and shock. Sky's mind really is sharp and quick and you can't often guess what came out of his mouth.

"Why..? Cos of the steak?" Nani asked, looking at the perfect steak that Sky had cooked and proudly presented to him.

After Nani freshened up, he felt much better. The stiffness had eased a lot. A certain part, still felt sore but it's tolerable.

Then he changed into the clothes Sky had chosen for him, his favourite pair of loose trousers, a boxer and the pink Hello Kitty shirt that Sky bought for him from Paris, amongst several other things.

Nani couldn't help but smile as he looked at himself in the mirror. He looked happy; Contented and happy.

Then he opened his bedroom door and peeked outside.

"Finally...!" Sky stood up at the dining table, and smiled, calling him over, like it was the most natural thing in the world, "come..Let's eat.."

Nani blinked, and knowing that there was no point in wallowing too much in shyness, he walked over to the dining table.

"It's almost eleven now. So, I prepared something heavy.." actually Sky prepared some toast, omelette and tea for breakfast but Nani didn't wake up and he didn't want to wake Nani up either. So, he put the breakfast away and started preparing for brunch.

Nani saw the steak which was cooked to perfection; had already been cut into small pieces for easy eating; complete with mash potato and salad. Nani held his breath, feeling his heart warming up.

Then, Sky pulled a chair for him, motioning him to sit down. Nani complied. Sky smiled, happy that Nani is being obedient and also glad that the dining chair was cushioned which makes it easier for Nani to sit down. He had already prepared the food on the table.

Sky sat down in front of Nani, still smiling widely, his hands clasped together, waiting for Nani to start eating.

Nani blushed, but he didn't say anything, he took one piece of steak and put it into his mouth and he was really not disappointed. The taste matches its presentation. It's super delicious and tasted just the way he loved it.

"How is it?" Sky asked, and Nani could see genuine anticipation in his eyes. "Delicious?"

Nani nodded, "very.." with one word, Sky felt like he had won the lottery. He grinned happily and began eating as well all the while unabashedly looking at Nani, with the usual adoring and whipped looks on his face.

Nani could feel Sky's eyes on him as he was eating. And though, it made his heart race like usual, he also knew how to pretend to ignore it.

They'd been together for almost two years now and Sky had been looking at him with that adoring and whipped look since the beginning. They always say to others that they're friends but nobody looks at his friend the way Sky looks at him, and they both knew it. At first it affected Nani so much and it showed in his flustered actions but gradually, Nani mastered the art of pretending to act normal. Of course, his heart still races, but he could control it from affecting him outwardly.

He kept silent and continued eating quietly.

Until Sky spoke reminding him about the Grab Food mini series ads they did a month ago.
