The drive back to the dorm was quiet, but not uncomfortably so. Lisa was still humming softly, tapping her fingers against the steering wheel in time with the song. Jennie kept her gaze fixed on the city lights outside. but she wasn't really seeing them.

She was too aware of Lisa's presence beside her-- the faint scent of her cologne, the way she absentmindedly biy her lip while humming, the way her hand rested so close to the gear shift thatbif Jennie moved even sligtly, their fingers would brush.

She didn't. She never did.

Lisa stole a glance at her. "You sure you're okay?"

Jennie sighed, leaning her head against the window. "You always ask that."

Lisa shrugged. " That's because you you always say you're fine when you're not."

Jennie turned to look at her, studying the familiar curve of her jaw, the sharp life of her nose. Lisa's eyes were fixed on the road but there was something softer in them, something that made Jennie's heart ache.

"You worry too much about me." Jennie said, her voice quieter than before.

Lisa let out a small laugh, but it lacked its usual playfulness. "Yeah, well. Someone has to."

Jennie didn't know how to respond to that, so she didn,t.

When they reached the dorm. the lights were off--Jisoo and Rosé were probably already asleep. Lisa locked the car with a beep. stretching as she walked toward the entrance.

Jennie lingered for a moment before following.

Inside, the air was warm, familiar. Their home. Lisa tossed her keys on the kitchen counter and turn to Jennie with a grin.

"So midnight snacks?"

Jennie hesitated, but the Lisa gave her that look-- the one that always got to her.

"fine," Jennie muttured, trying to sound annoyed. She wasn't.

Lisa cheered like she had won a game, already rummanaging through the cabinets. "instant ramen or toast?"

Jennie leaned against the couter, watching her. "You're going to eat both anyway."

Lisa gasped dramatically. "Excuse me, I'm a growing girl."

Jennie laughed; shaking her head. This was what she loved moth aboutbLisa-- the way she could make everything feel lighter, like the weight on Jennie's shoulders wasn't as heavy when Lisa was around.

Lisa handed her a bowl of ramen and went to flopped down on the couch, patting the spot beside her. Jennie sat, their shoulders brushing as they ate in confortable silence.

After a few minutes, Lisa spoke again. "Hey Jen."

Jennie turned her head slightly. "Yeah?"

"I meant what I said earlier," Lisa murmured. "If something's bothering you, you can tell me."

Jennie swallowed. "I know."

Lisa finally turned to face her then, eyes searching. "Then why don't you?"

Jennie felt her heart race. The words were right there, pressing against her ribs desperatebto be spoken.

Because I think about you too much. Because you make me feel things I don't know how to say. Because i'm scared.

Instead, she forced a small smile. "Because it's not important."

Lisa studied her for a long moment before exhaling softly. "Okay."

Jennie wasn't sure if Lisa believed her.

And she wasn't sure if she wanted to.
