Truthless Recluse hesitated, his grip tightening around the glowing Soul Jam in his palm. The weight of his decision pressed upon him like an iron vice, but at last, he exhaled a shaky breath.

"...My choice is..."

With slow, deliberate movements, he extended his hand, offering the Soul Jam to Shadow Milk Cookie.

A devilish grin spread across the dark illusionist's face. "Oh, hello, beautiful! Yes, come to Papa!"

Before Truthless Recluse could react, Shadow Milk Cookie snatched the Soul Jam from his grasp, cradling it against his chest like a long-lost treasure.

Truthless Recluse's eyes widened in horror. "...?!"

Shadow Milk Cookie threw his head back and let out a wild, unrestrained laugh. "HA HA HA HA HA! Oh, really, how can anyone be so easily fooled?!"

Truthless Recluse staggered back. "What...?!"

Before he could process the betrayal, Dark Reader Cookie stepped forward, their sharp-toothed grin gleaming. With a flick of their wrist, dark tendrils erupted from the ground, monstrous hands forming from the void itself. In one swift motion, they swiped at the others, sending GingerBrave, Wizard Cookie, and Strawberry Cookie hurtling from the tower's edge.

"That..." Dark Reader Cookie mused, watching the scene unfold.

"AAAAAAAH!!!" the trio screamed as they disappeared into the abyss below.

"NO!!!" Truthless Recluse lunged forward, but it was too late. He turned, his voice shaking with fury and despair. "Why?! I surrendered my Soul Jam to you! And you, Reader Cookie—they were your friends!"

Dark Reader Cookie scoffed. "More like backstabbers..."

Shadow Milk Cookie draped an arm over their shoulders, smirking. "Awww, how sweet of you! But what is life without a little lie?!"

Dark Reader Cookie tilted their head. "Did you really think he would keep the deal? How naive..."

"Exactly!" Shadow Milk Cookie chirped. "And this? This is all your fault!"

Truthless Recluse flinched, his voice barely a whisper. "What are you saying...?"

For the first time, Shadow Milk Cookie's playful demeanor shifted into something more sinister. His smirk faded as he fixed Truthless Recluse with a piercing stare. "Did you think I wouldn't notice the way you looked at your precious friends? At my trickster? What was it? Your petty self-righteousness? Foolishness? Sense of guilt? What was it that made your Soul Jam ring like a thousand bells?!"

He took a step forward, his voice rising. "Oh, I couldn't stand that annoying sound—that pathetic echo of whatever feeble will you had left! At first, yes, I only wanted your Soul Jam. But then I met my trickster, and oh, what joy they bring me! And you—well, I began to wonder... How far could I push you?! What would happen if I kept squeezing and squeezing your soft, submissive soul?! Or better—what if I make Reader Cookie same as me?!"

His laughter rang through the night, wild and unhinged. "And there we have it! HA HA HA HA HA!!!"

Truthless Recluse dropped to his knees, clutching his chest. "Everything... is my fault...!"

Shadow Milk Cookie sighed dreamily. "Ah, yes! Your screams are music to my ears! But now, take a look—your Soul Jam..."

Dark Reader Cookie turned their gaze to the Soul Jam in Shadow Milk Cookie's palm. It was no longer baby blue and bright. It had turned completely gray.
