A piercing scream cut through the silent night.

The group froze as the sound of desperate cries for help echoed from beyond the trees. Without hesitation, they rushed forward, their steps quickened by the urgency in the voice. As they reached a small clearing, their eyes widened in horror.

A Cookie—barely holding together, his body riddled with cracks and missing chunks of dough—was surrounded by monsters, his weakened form trembling as he whimpered, "I don't want to crumble... Please... someone... help me..."

GingerBrave's eyes burned with determination as he gripped his candy cane. "That Cookie needs our help!"

"We must rescue him!" Pure Vanilla agreed, his staff already glowing with light.

The battle erupted in a flash of magic and steel. Reader Cookie focused their energy, channeling their magic to neutralize the encroaching monsters, weaving powerful enchantments that dulled their attacks and slowed their movements. Spells intertwined with bursts of elemental force as Wizard Cookie unleashed his magic, while GingerBrave and Strawberry Cookie charged forward, striking down the creatures with determined ferocity. Apple Fairy Cookie zipped between them, her apple hammer crashing down on the foes with surprising force.

As the last monster fell, the group hurried toward the fallen Cookie. Apple Fairy Cookie let out a shocked gasp. "How horrible... there are crumbs everywhere."

The crumbling Cookie lay in the dirt, his breath ragged. His cracked lips parted as he weakly reached out. "A healer... Please... help me..."

Pure Vanilla knelt beside him, his hands glowing with a soft, comforting light as he assessed the Cookie's condition. His face, usually so full of warmth and reassurance, faltered. His heart ached as he realized the truth—there was nothing he could do. This Cookie's life energy was too far gone, beyond even his power to restore.

But still, he couldn't bring himself to tell him the truth. Instead, he gently grasped the Cookie's hand and whispered, "You will be fine. Look at me. Don't close your eyes."

A haunted silence fell over them. The crumbling Cookie's breath hitched, his voice thick with emotion as he rasped, "Tell me the truth... I... I have seen so little... done so little... I must return... There's a Cookie..." He gasped, his body shuddering as numbness overtook him. "I feel numb... even the pain is gone... I'm scared... Is... is this the end?"

Pure Vanilla's grip tightened. "No. Just hold on a little longer."

The Cookie gave him a faint smile, though his eyes were clouded with sorrow. "You promised I'd be fine... but I'm going to crumble, aren't I? Nothing but empty promises... all a lie..."

His voice faded into a whisper. "Don't worry... it was a sweet lie... but I only wanted... to live..."

Pure Vanilla reached forward, but before his hands could touch the Cookie again, Wizard Cookie gasped, his voice filled with fear. "He's disappearing!"

White Lily's eyes widened in horror. "Pure Vanilla! Something's wrong!"

Reader Cookie took a step back, their pulse quickening as they watched the crumbling form flicker and distort. The wounded Cookie was unraveling before their eyes—until, in his place, a twisted monster remained, grinning with hollow, empty eyes.

An illusion. A cruel joke.

Shadow Milk Cookie's trickery. His dark humor.

The realization sent a cold chill through them as the monster lunged.
