The Last Victim - A Non-TF Chapter

[Warning: This Chapter Contains Strong Language, Syringes, Mentions of a Societal Collapse, and Chasing. You have been warned.]

It has been a while since Lydia and Black Square had left Indigo due to her sacrifice in the previous chapter, Lydia and Black Square were already inside of the former's car, as Lydia had some 2000s pop music to make sure that the surroundings were not as boring as spending hours in the opera hall, not like Lydia would care about that stuff anyways.

Lydia couldn't believe that she's the only person standing between Craig's victory and his defeat, Lydia had another strategy to make sure that she isn't going to transform herself. Lydia knew about Open Source Objects, and she ran down the list of characters, knowing who remains on this list, even thinking about it was making her nervous and sick to her stomach.

The past few weeks have been strange, but Lydia isn't going to let herself get transformed by that damn asshole. Who does Craig think he is to transform all these innocent people into characters from that show.

Black Square was paying attention to his surroundings as he was writing down everything he needs to know for the incidents, and how he can stop them for good, saving everyone that he knew and loved. Of course, Lydia knew that Craig might be on their tail soon, as she looked at how Barkfield is diminishing, and how they'd soon be in Havensbrook, the only place where it would be safe. Suddenly, Lydia was curious on what is going on with Deerville. Lydia then began to hear some horrible news.

Hello, this is Deerville News, and today, we have found out that there is a strange light that has been turning people into objects, algebraliens and other creatures from a show called Battle for Dream Island. If your phone or any other electronic begins acting up, please... throw it away, and run away from this town.

This is also just in that there are busses that are there for evacuating all the remaining survivors to head over towards Havensbrook, a safe haven from all those transformation.

This might be our last episode for Deerville news, thank you for being part of our community and see you all in Havensbrook.

Lydia then shed a tear, concerned about the well-being of Skeeter, and all those neighbors who were ignorant over the transformations. Lydia couldn't believe that her hometown was falling apart. In the mirror, Lydia noticed that Black Square was crying as well. She couldn't hear sobbing, but she could see that Black Square was really, really upset.

Of course, Bessie still having his old mind intact meant that he still clung onto Deerville, which meant that even hearing it falling apart would hurt his feelings, devastating him.

Lydia, however, wasn't going to let it stop her from completing the mission at hand; getting Black Square at the research facility and finally start working on the cure to all this, to end the transformations once and for all. Lydia then decided that she should get some refreshments first before she fully enters Havensbrook and finishes the mission.

Of course, it seems like that they're miles away from Craig and the family, but little what Lydia knew, Craig had prepared for this, to use Bessie to track down the last victim.

Meanwhile at the Void...

Clarissa was looking at the screen following Lydia, as everyone had entered the room to watch.
"Like, out of everyone, why would Lydia be the last survivor?" Clarissa asked.
"Well, Bessie is still in there as well, and two, you have been helping with all this stuff, along with that Regina bitch!" Valerie shouted.
"Well, I don't like your attitude, Valerie! I want to go back home! But Lydia has to not mess this up!" Regina scowled.
"Well, it'll take a couple years, decades, to find a cure! And by then! The world that we know and love won't be recognizable when we return!" Purro shouted, "I hate how things have gone, and that's even if Lydia manages to outwit Craig at his own pathetic game!"
"Well, I have to find a new job once we get the hell out of here, right?" Simon asked.
"Well, you think you have all suffered for a long time! I want out now!" Howard shouted as he screamed like a maniac, going insane with the people around him and how he's not able to go around, ranting about Christmas.
"We need a game plan, we need to find someone in here who would release us." Indigo replied.
"I agree with Indigo." Serena replied, "I have an idea to get rid of Craig once and for all, if we get down there before he transforms his sorry ass."
"Well, we have to pray that Lydia can help us all as well, before the unthinkable happens as well." Nadia replied.
"Well, good idea, I like that!" Rosemary smiled, "I have a cousin to get back to after all."
"Who's your cousin?" Dorothy scoffed.
"Well, her name is Whilmea, she works at the Havensbrook research facility." Rosemary smiled, "However, we don't really get along well, since our ideals clash."

-------------------------------
Back with Lydia...

Lydia was looking at a scared Black Square, who was worried about the transformations, about Lydia's well-being, as Lydia knew that she was running off borrowed time, and she had this feeling that Craig will come soon if she doesn't hurry with buying the refreshments.

"Stay hidden. I know that you are a valuable asset to the fate of this world, if Craig spots you, he would wipe your mind and then... all would be lost." Lydia sighed, "Cover up in the blanket if you really need to."
Black Square nervously nodded, knowing what would happen, he cannot let his friends down, he cannot let anyone else down, he cannot lose anything else either.
"Alright, see you when I return from buying refreshments. Hope the people in that research facility are nice people." Lydia sighed.

Suddenly, Lydia ran into the store, hoping that nobody would spot her. However, Craig was getting ready to enter the parking lot where Lydia was at.

Craig drove in as Blaine was carrying a tablet, on an app that tracks down missing contestants just incase anything goes wrong.

"Lydia... you're only delaying the inevitable, can't you see that you have to transform?" Craig snickered.

Lydia was browsing through the drinks, before catching a glimpse of Craig and his four children. Shit, they're here, they're going to ruin my efforts to save everyone!

Lydia then closed up the cooler, grabbing the drinks that she needed for the refreshments. Of course, Lydia had her wallet with her, and she was about to pay for the refreshments, while trying to avoid being spotted.

It was like a game of cat and mouse, with Craig being the cat and Lydia is the mouse. Lydia knew that she had to hurry up and drive off.

After paying for the items, Lydia ran out of the area as she was about to reach for the car, hoping that Craig wouldn't get to her.

However, Craig isn't going to let Lydia get away any further than she did. Because Craig was about to do something to her... something that will forever change the course of the battle for the worst.

Craig just smirked as he pulled out the last syringe, ready to transform Lydia no matter what.
