Chapter 14

A sharp kick sent him tumbling onto the floor.

Shadow Milk Cookie barely registered the impact before floating upright, dusting himself off with an exaggerated pout.

Reader Cookie pushed themselves up from the bed, standing their ground. "ALRIGHT!" they shouted, face flushed. "You got your payback—now where are my friends?! And Pure Vanilla Cookie?!"

Shadow Milk Cookie waved a dismissive hand. "Why do you care about them? They're useless to you..." He paused, eyes gleaming with something dark. "As for Pure Vanilla... he is no more. Only the Cookie of Deceit remains."

"They aren't useless!" Reader Cookie snapped. "They're my friends! And Pure Vanilla is still in there. I would know."

Shadow Milk Cookie scoffed. "And pray tell, how?"

Reader Cookie smirked. "Wouldn't you like to know?"

Shadow Milk Cookie's laughter filled the space, rich and mocking. "That's what I like about you! So amusing! We're the same, you and I. Why not join me? Together, we could rule all of Earthbread! Chaos! Power! Freedom!"

"I'll pass."

Shadow Milk Cookie's smile faltered. "Why?! It'll be fun! Entertaining! You'd have your revenge against those who mock you—those who hurt you! So why?!"

Reader Cookie simply smiled. "What good would that do me? It wouldn't erase the pain. It wouldn't make it disappear."

Shadow Milk Cookie leaned in, eyes dark. "You could teach them a lesson."

Reader Cookie shook their head. "And prove them right? Not a chance." They exhaled softly. "The best revenge? Happiness."

Shadow Milk Cookie stared at them, expression unreadable. Then, he laughed—a sharp, almost mocking sound. "Oh, how cute! My little trickster, believing in such nonsense..."

Reader Cookie sighed. "It's something my friends taught me."

Shadow Milk Cookie's eyes darkened. "Your friends? They'll leave you the moment they fear your power. In the end, you'll be alone."

"No, they won't," Reader Cookie countered. "I know them."

Shadow Milk Cookie stepped closer, tilting his head as he cupped their cheek with a slow, deliberate touch. "Then... where are they? I bet they're looking for dear Pure Vanilla—not you."

Reader Cookie slapped his hand away. "We both know that's not true."

Shadow Milk Cookie's smirk twisted. "Oh, but you still have doubts." His voice dipped to a whisper. "You're more like me than you are like them... We both know it. Join me, and you will be in control. You will change the rules. You will never be abandoned." His fingers trailed along their cheek with an almost gentle touch. "You won't be hurt again."

"I decline."

Reader Cookie folded their arms, turning away—but that was a mistake.

The moment they looked away, Shadow Milk Cookie's blue strings shot forward, wrapping around them in an instant. Before they could struggle, they were lifted into the air, dangling helplessly as he stepped toward them with a smirk.

"Oh, I believe you don't have a choice in the matter, my dear..." His voice dripped with twisted delight. "I will not let someone who understands me just leave."

With a flick of his wrist, he sent them tumbling onto a bed of plush pillows and blankets. Before they could react, the blankets slithered around them, tightening like a serpent. He adjusted a pillow beneath their head, smiling down at them. He then touched their cheek with almost kind way.

His fingers lingered, pressing against their pulse, feeling it race beneath his touch. A possessive gleam entered his eyes. "I won't let them take you away from me."

"Now, I do have some check-ups to attend to," he said, tone laced with mock concern. "You will stay put and wait for me—without disappearing, understood?"

His grin sharpened. "I will know if you try anything."

He pressed a teasing kiss to their cheek with a loud, exaggerated "Mwah!" before stepping back.

"Later~" he chimed before vanishing.

As soon as he disappeared, Reader Cookie struggled against their restraints. They turned their head, searching for an escape route—

Only to find none.

No door. No window.

"...Oh, crumbs."

They sighed, resting their head against the pillow. "It's gonna take some time to escape...oh and take back my umberlla too... Please, guys... be safe."
