"All right, get him on his feet. We can all stand around posing up a storm later." The group separated. Lydia was never a part of the threatening pose. She gave Nick Fury a call instead.
"Director." She addressed him coldly, clearly remaining informal about his betrayal even after all of the heart ache she's endured today.
"Agent Stark. You got something for me?" Fury asked hopefully. He was standing in front of the news footage as they spoke.
"By the way, feel free to clean up." Tony shouted. Lydia smiled at him, but turned away to face the city of destruction to help herself focus on the real problem at hand.
"I do. We have Loki, his scepter, and the Tesseract." Fury's smile widened at the good news. He assumed they would, but he didn't guess what was coming next.
"Terrific work, Agent. Strike team is already on their way to—"
"Oh, I think you're mistaken. You think SHIELD can be trusted with any of the things I just listed?" Fury grew quiet in the other end. He knew one way or another her newfound distrust of him would bite him in the butt.
"Stark." His low, intimidating tone no longer scared Lydia. After seeing what damage the Tesseract and the stone inside the scepter could do, she knew SHIELD couldn't be trusted with that kind of power. Ironically, even though the way he went about it was all wrong, Loki was kind of right (about this exclusively.)
"Strike team can come if they want. But I'm not giving them anything."
"Lydia! You will hand over Loki, the spear, and the Tesseract, that is an or—" Lydia already hung up on him.
"Did I just hear you telling Fury off?" Lydia chuckled. Tony waddled over to her in his beyond destroyed suit, wrapping an arm around her shoulders.
"You heard right." Lydia said, wrapping her arm around Tony's torso. She quickly withdrew her hand after a jagged shard sticking out of his armor.
"Ballsy move." Her lip curled up halfway into a smirk.
"Still quitting?" Lydia sighed, shaking her head.
"I'm greatly considering it."
"Well, I'll support you no matter what. Matter Pep could find you a place in Stark Industries?"
