'Tis The Season of Holiday Movies and Cocktail Parties

Dr. Raynor's office Washington DC, Virginia
December 24th, 2011
11:00 AM

"So?" Most days Lydia's sarcastic conversation starter to all their sessions was unappreciated, but today Raynor scoffed. Lydia's eyebrows furrowed in concern as the doctor crisply shut her notebook and began to chuckle.

"Uh, you okay Doc? Should I be the one therapist-ing you today?" Raynor chuckled, wiping her eyes from tears of laughter. Lydia was officially weirded out about Raynor laughing and crying at 7 AM on a Monday, all because she said the word so.

"No, I'm fine. Just thought of something funny is all." Lydia let it slide, but she was unable to hide her confusion from her tell-all facial expressions.

"Let's talk about your most recent mission, yeah? What made you take the assignment?" Raynor asked, cleaning her throat to bring about the professional setting back into her office. Lydia rolled her eyes, sitting back into the center of the stiff, grey couch.

"You know, I didn't even know you had an office in DC. I'm starting to think you're stalking me, Doc." Lydia deflected, propping her feet up on the petite coffee table between the two of them, kicking over a few magazines to make room for the heels of her shoes.

"New office, same rules. Get your feet off the furniture." Raynor slapped Lydia's feet with her floppy notebook. Lydia grimaced as she slowly put her feet up on the other side of the couch.

"Now, answer the question please. What made you want to do this assignment?" Lydia shrugged, purposely avoiding eye contact.

"What makes you think I chose to do this?" She snarled, crossing her arms firmly over her chest.

"Well, for starters, this type of thing is right up your alley." Raynor smirked slightly as she flipped through her almost completely full book, every page filled with notes about Lydia's progress over the years. If she had a time for every selfless act Lydia's performed but acted like she did it out of her own self interest, she'd be richer than Tony Stark himself. Even then, something gnawing at the doctor told her it ran deeper than Lydia's insecurities this time.

"What does that mean?" Lydia asked with a chuckle.

"You know what I mean. Besides, you're the top Agent of SHIELD. If you didn't want a mission, you wouldn't be forced into it, I can tell that much." Lydia sighed, hating how wise she could be about military and intelligence operations.
