The Man Out of Time
SHIELD Headquarters in New York City December 20th, 2011 9:00 A.M
For it being as late in the morning as it was, the streets of the city were packed per usual. A convoy of more than ten cars tightly followed the truck Lydia and Natasha were in containing the, apparently, living legend himself. It only took a surprising 12 hours for Lydia and the science team to defrost the findings of Coulson's arctic adventure.
Almost 70 years ago, a brave soldier who had nothing to offer except a scrawny body and asthma enlisted into the military and risked it all to become the famous Captain America, who famously helped end the nazi special science division that would later inspire the creation of SHIELD.
But, at the center of the star spangled man would always be the young asthmatic who would do anything for anyone, regardless of where they came from, what they did, or if they deserved it or not, without even thinking of what would happen to him. That's what made him a hero, not a military ranking, or a cool uniform, or the shield Howard Stark made for him. It was his heart.
At the end of the war he laid down his by crashing an auto set plane with bombs on board to ensure the safety of his first love and the population of this great city. Now, 70 years later he was being brought back in an escort.
"When do you think he'll wake?" Natasha asked.
"Well, it shouldn't be for another week or so. Maybe even longer, his body needs to catch up to his brain. Right now, he may be thawed out but his internal systems are still frozen through and through." That was the long answer Natasha wasn't really looking for.
"Could've just told me to hope for a Christmas miracle." Nat crossed her arms and legs. She stared at the end of the truck, waiting until Lydia wasn't looking at her to shoot a quick glance at the super soldier on a stretcher sitting completely still in front of her. Natasha found the corner of her mouth naturally titling upwards.
"Well, the real Christmas miracle would be convincing you to come to Tony's Christmas party next—"
"No." Natasha shut down immediately.
"Please, Nat! You know I wanted to wear the matching dresses and—"
"Ly, you know my rule." Lydia sighed, because even though she knew the rule she was hoping one day she'd be able to get Natasha to break it.
"I know the rule, but it sucks, so why do you want to follow it?" Natasha chuckled, trying not to show her slight hurt. Lydia's question was met with Natasha's silent stare as she fought the temptation to glance at the super soldier across from them.
