“Rosa, you don’t look alright. Are you ok?” I looked at her and for the first time she didn’t look me in the eyes. That’s odd; she always meets her striking moss green eyes with my dull grey ones. But all I got was her eyelids.

“Rosa, something’s wrong.” I walked over to her and helped her frail body to her bed.

“Everything’s fine child. Now go to school before your late.” She said in-between coughs.

“But –”

“No buts just go.” She looked at me and I knew I couldn’t disobey her. I said my good-byes and left. The journey to school was cold and dreadful. The whole time I couldn’t help but feel as though something was wrong. I can feel it in the air.

I remember the first time I met Rosa I was scared and afraid, but now she’s become my best friend. Even if she is an old woman. After she showed me her trick we became like peanut butter and jelly. I would visit her every other day, and every time I came she showed me a new trick. After about a month she told me that I was a witch, I was skeptical at first but I knew the magic she showed me wasn’t fake.

I looked up from my daydreaming and saw my dusty old school. Well it was everything from dusty. That’s just how I see it.

It was a polished four story building filled with phish-posh rich kids.  I only attend it because sadly enough I came from a phish-posh family.

I walked up to the school door, pushed it open and started my descend into hell. I reached my locker, got my books, and went to first period. The bell didn’t ring yet, but I like to get their early so I could avoid the rush of people.

About 10 minutes later English class started and my oh so sexy teacher Mr. Ross walked in.

“Ok today’s topic is the European Witch-Hunt. We will study why for three centuries of early modern European history there were so many Witch-hunts.” How ironic.

“Ok let’s begin by me asking any of you if you believe in witches.” No one raised their hands.

“Good because-” he abruptly stopped speaking because he notice my lonely hand raised in the air.

“Henrietta you believe in witches?”

“Yes I do.” How could I not, I mean I am one.

Everyone in the class turned and looked at me. It was like they were just realizing I went to this school. I heard mumbles like “who is that?” or “when did she get here?” Idiots!

“So Ms Blackwood, what do you know about witches?” I knew he was mocking me just by his tone.

“I know that they were burned at the stake because they were misunderstood. People might have thought them evil, but they were just different. People back then had small minds and the incapability to understand, almost like some of the people in this class, but I’m sure you knew that Mr. Ross.” He looked taken back. He must’ve felt embarrassed that a student had just schooled him.

The class stared at me like I just spoke Hebrew. I could see in their eyes that they were angry at me for calling them idiots, but I mean they were. I laughed out loud. They stared at me as if I was crazy, maybe I was but looking at their boggled faces was just too funny.

Mr. Ross looked pissed.

“Oh is that right Ms. Blackwood. So explain to me why you think they were burned at the stake. I wouldn’t call using witchcraft unique or beautiful. It’s evil and obscure. That’s why they were burned at the stake, because they were WITCHES!” I stood up then. I clenched my fist together and out of the blue my chair fell back and a strong wind blew into the class. Right away I knew I had used my magic, I also knew that if I got too angry it could cause a forest fire. So I calmed down.

The classroom was dead silent. I walked to the front of the room and got in Mr. Ross’s face.

“You got the last part right. They were witches BUT they weren’t evil if anything they only tried to help out ignorant people like you. They used their powers for good, and only good you dumbbell. And you call yourself a teacher!” I turned and headed to the door but then he said…

“Witch craft? What garbage, there’s no such thing.” I turned around and faced him.

I gave him a smug look and said “Oh there isn’t” in my best sarcastic tone. I went to the middle of the classroom and turned so that everyone saw me. I took a breath closed my eyes and began.

“I Thank-you O'Powers of Earth, Moon, Sun & Stars

I Thank-you O'Elements of Earth, Water, Air, & Fire

To the Spirits of ALL that have past & Those yet to come

To the Gods & Goddesses, Ancient & Young”

I opened my eyes I saw a ball of light coming from my hands. It was so beautiful. I looked at my teacher and then at my classmates expecting to see them in awe, but they weren’t. They looked petrified. My smug smile turned into a frown.

“WITCH!” a girl screamed. Then all hell broke loose.
