The scattering of everyone running around as the loud storm echoed outside filled your ears. The challenge was commencing, but it was hard to keep your head straight among the deafening chaos within every corner of the building. Trying to keep up, you attempted to chase after your team, but to no avail. You lost them. The constant noises were almost overstimulating before a sudden voice snapped you out of it.
"Hello, you!" A female-sounding voice grabs your attention, and before you can turn to look around, something grabs you. "Let's chat somewhere more casual!" The voice says before the entire environment changes before your eyes. One blink, and you're already away from the hotel.
Recollecting the sudden change in environment, you anxiously look back and forth in this new room with no windows or doors, filled to the brim with a blue hue. Fidgeting in your seat, your gaze sets from the walls to the blue number in front of you instead. The permanent smile on her face sends an uneasy feeling down your spine. Your movement is frozen as an unknown force holds you down.
"W...where am I?" You utter under your breath, directing your gaze to the unfamiliar number in front of you. "Who are you?" You ask, very confused, unsure why or how you're even here. "I'm just a friendly helper, here to fix your problems!" she happily proclaims. "Of course, not without something in return!" She chimes in with that smile still on her face. She sits on the sofa directly across from you, her gaze piercing straight into yours.
"My... problems?" You are unsure if what she says is true, but you still ask nonetheless.
She nods. "Of course! It could be something you lost, something you want.." She glances to the side of the room where a miniature replica of the hotel is seated. "Or perhaps, something more." She suggests.
You look at the miniature replica of the storm before remembering something. "Are you saying that you're able to fix the storm?" You asked her. She nods before pulling out a contract. "Of course! All you have to do is make a deal with me." She chirps.
You look at the contract before glancing up at her again. "What if I have more than one problem though? It's not just the storm I'm worried about..." Your words trail off.
She hums for a moment, that smile still on her face. "I think I have a special deal for you then.." She pulls out a different contract. "Of course, not all of my services are free, so I have a plan that will help both of us!" she exclaims.
"Like they say, an eye for an eye..." She chuckles after you try to join, but end up sounding somewhat awkward.
...
That's how you got this weird job. In exchange for One's service, you would collect information on certain people of interest; whether it be small bits of information, or just random tidbits that would be considered helpful. You didn't know what kind of person One was, but something about her intrigued you — the sense of her mysterious nature with her constant knowledge of knowing more... That's something you don't understand quite yet. After gathering more information on one of the contestants, you run off into a secluded area where nobody can see you. Not long after, you pull out a device that alerts One that you are done with your task. After a few seconds pass, you're transported from the hotel to One's office. She has never directly called it that, but you call it one anyway.
"Ah! I see you've completed what I asked of you! " One happily chirped, and you smiled back. Her once unnerving smile started to comfort you the more you saw it.
"Yup, I did. I got the info just like you asked!" You held up a manila folder full of notes while exclaiming with enthusiasm.
One uses her power to bring the folder out of your hands and towards her. She opens it and reads what is inside before humming in an approving tone. "Looks like it all checks out! Well done." She compliments you, and you avert your gaze a little out of bashfulness. You quickly regain your composure before it becomes too noticeable.
"Now... what problem do you want fixed today?" She questions you as she flops onto one of the sofas. You pause to think. For the past while, the types of favors that you wanted her to do were mostly ones that centered around wanting to know the eccentric number herself. You felt a little nervous to ask those types of favors, though, so you mostly responded with more random answers. Yet today, your curiosity got the better of you.
"Actually, how about today I get to know more about you..?" You trail off but you managed to get the point across.
One pauses and blinks for a moment before her usual smile comes across her face again. "I don't see why not!" she chirps. "Let's chat."
...
After that request, it started to become a common occurrence to retrieve info for One in trade for more quality time with her. You got to learn more about her and at the same time, she learned more about you. After a while, you started to notice that you didn't need to bring information to One to have those types of conversations with her. Even though she called it casual from the start, it did start to feel genuinely casual at some point. You didn't know when or how it started; it all came so naturally when you started to see her in a light that felt more than platonic. From the way she holds herself with brimming confidence, to the intricate ways she expresses her emotions, you could feel yourself just wanting to stare for hours... Yet even so, you didn't know how or when to vocalize these feelings that you started to develop.
You wonder if the way you show your emotions were too obvious; every now and then One would have affectionate displays of friendship that would sometimes would leave you flustered. The way she would say some words that would leave you questioning what exactly she meant by it. That was on top of the occasional gestures that almost crossed the barrier of just being platonic. You had the feeling that she knew, and reciprocated it, but the topic was never brought up by either of you, until you reached the limit.
...
"And then she said, 'Well I never!'" One chuckled. You joined along, but you weren't really paying attention, so it wasn't as genuine.
"Hey, are you doing alright?" One's voice snaps you out of your daze. You look forward towards her gaze, not knowing what to say, before One teleports in front of you. Your breath hitches by the sheer surprise before quickly regaining your composure.
"Hmm, you're awfully jumpy today." One nearly teases you, but still shows both curiosity and concern.
You steady yourself before speaking. "Actually, I have something important to tell you." Your voice is slightly unsteady.
"Hm? Do tell."
You take another breath. "Promise not to say anything until I'm done, okay?" One does a pretend zip across her mouth before nodding in agreement. Steading yourself, you started to pour out all the feelings that have been mustering up since you've met One, from small moments to the points when you realized that your relationship felt more than just platonic. You started oversharing from every little detail that stuck out to you to the very last detail in your mind. Your face is almost burning from both the sheer anxiousness and embarrassment that you're feeling, before finally shutting up and looking down at the floor unable to see her reaction.
A moment of awkwardness falls over the room before One's voice cuts the silence. "Interesting." One chuckled before using her magic to make you look back up and face her. "I'd say, we would make a pretty good match together..." One's voice trails off slightly before clearing her throat, even though she has that constant feel of confidence. For a moment you could see a hint of bashfulness from her. "If you want a clearer response, then..." She pauses for a moment. "I like you too." A darker tint appears on her face before it quickly goes away.
..
That night, the both of you explored lines that you never thought would cross, but you wouldn't have it any other way.
