The teenager stood underneath the overhead of a closed grocery store, in the shadows, leaning against the wall of the brick building. The walls were drenched with rain, the wind screaming and tearing against all the buildings that stood in its path. The sudden crack of thunder booming across the whole of Manhattan. The sound shook the girl to her bones, the thin black cloak hastily wrapped around her.

She blinked in rapid motions, the sheets of rain causing her face to become numb from the cold. No one in their right mind would stay out here in the cold, but the storm did not care for ones feelings- but still, the storm raged on.

Still, the girl waited, covering her wobbling lip and chin with the ends of the drenched cloak. Mother would be very angry for she had ruined her only cloak. The teen scoffed to herself, tying the cloak hastily around her waist- she would just have to suffer the rain herself.

A sharp pain erupted in her head, a sort of tugging at the back of her mind. It was a sign that she knew well, one that meant she was due to go back home. (Y/n) (M/n) (L/n) was not ready to venture back to where she lived with her family. She wished to stay out here, feeling the rain and wind on her skin- a feeling that made her human. She looked down at her hands, glancing at the cracked skin that had barley been healed. She closed her fists, looking up at the buildings that leaned cautiously over her- beaten down by the wind and rain.

(Y/n) ripped the cloak off from her waist, pulling her arms through and tossing the hood over her head. The cloak was cold and drenched with rain, the cloth stung at her skin, biting at her with its scratchy thin black fabric. She half turned, a sudden movement on the rooftop capturing her attention. (Y/n) froze, her eyes going to the side as she noticed it.

Was it the police, aliens, or monsters? Mother had warned her constantly about these horrible men and women who only wanted to hurt her. It had taken fifteen years to convince Mother that she was a proud half human- strong and ready to stand up to the people that longed to harm her. (Y/n) turned, her quivering chin jutted upward into the air.

She took a step forward, holding onto her black hood tightly, squinting towards that one rooftop in particular. It was between two smaller buildings, almost like a watchtower. (Y/n) read the plaque on the door of the building, a Japanese restaurant of some type. She attempted to sound out the words, but since it was in another language, all that came out was, "Ka... Kanji." (Y/n) snorted at the name as she took a step forward, trying to figure out who the figures were on that rooftop. Drug addicts? (Y/n) smiled as she became excited. She had always wanted to meet a drug addict. Were they nice?

(Y/n) took a few more steps forward, her head lifting forward. She kept walking, intrigued about these four figures. They seemed deformed, different from the people she had seen on tv. (Y/n)'s hands shook gently as she started to pull down her hood. She was going against a strict rule Mother had placed for her. 'Never pull down your hood once you leave the shadows.' Right now, (Y/n) didn't care- she just wanted to get a good look at these interesting beings. With a sudden flourish she yanked down the hood, taking a deep breath.

"Excuse me?" Called (Y/n), not realizing what words were coming out of her mouth before they were too late. Talking to a person other than her family? Mother would be very angry when she would find out.

The four pairs of head snapped towards her, their eyes glowing... white? (Y/n)'s heart jumped a few beats as she took an uneasy step backwards. "Uh... Hello?" Her voice cracked as she tried to figure out with mysterious dark beings. This was crazy- she had made a mistake. It was time to turn back, Mother would not be happy. Mother would lock her in the Room again.

(Y/n) shivered in fear, the rain was slapping her in the face, covering her sight as she wondered what the beings would do.
