(Sophie's POV)
"Honey, I think you should go visit him. Especially today." Edaline whispered.
Just thinking about him made my eyes water. Why did he have to save me that day? He knew...
The thought trailed off when Grady came pounding down the stairs in a panic. "Eda. I need your help."
Before Edaline went, she glanced at me and said, "Go visit him. Please."
Then she left me there with my own sad thoughts.
I stared at the ceiling.
Finally, I picked up my cloak and walked out of Havenfield.
*****
When I arrived at the Wandering Woods, I felt a lump lodge in my throat. I stared up at the words. Those who wander are not lost.
I had been here many times before, with the deaths of people I loved being held here. But this death was the hardest. Because I loved this person the most. Too bad I had discovered that way too late. Now he was gone. And I would never be able to tell him.
The guilt had almost killed me.
Elvin minds shatter from guilt. And I was barely holding on to my consciousness on a thin string that anybody could cut.
I fought with him on the day he died. So not only did he not know I love him, he thought I hated him.
I saw him everywhere. In the laughs of my friends. In the pictures he had painted. Even in the color of his much-too-pretty eyes.
It turned out... The prankster was out of tricks.
His tree looked exactly how I imagined it. Blonde colored leaves with ice blue berries and a crooked trunk that mirrored his smirk and adventurous nature. I missed him so much that a silent tear rolled down my cheek. I brushed my fingers along the trunk.
"I love you." I whispered.
I started sobbing as my body broke down in the dirt. I clutched the last thing he had given me. Mrs. Stinkbottom.
I didn't hear footsteps until a leaf crunched behind me.
I wiped my eyes and turned, thinking it was Edaline coming to check on me.
"I make a pretty hot Wanderling, don't I?" A familiar voice asked.
My eyes widened and my jaw dropped as more tears rolled down my cheeks.
I stood frozen.
"K-keefe?" I whispered. I didn't get my hopes up because I hallucinated about him a lot.
"The one and only." Our eyes met, making my heart flutter even more as he said, "I love you, too." His crooked smirk shined like warmth in the cold darkness. "And yes, I'm real. Real as ever."
I sprinted over to him, almost knocking him over with the tight hug I gave him.
"It's okay, Foster." Keefe whispered, kissing me softly. "I'm here."
*****
(A/N: I didn't want to end it there, so here's some more Sokeefe)
"Keefe, you need to stop doing that before I beat you with my slippers." I warned.
"Oh PLEASE do!" Ro exclaimed. "Maybe you'll smack some sense into him. Then again, he's hanging from the ceiling, so..."
Keefe had created a zipline from the top floor to the living room. Of course, I told him he could just levitate, but he insisted that this was better.
And he kept dropping Panakes blossoms whenever he flew over my head.
"Aww, come on Foster, live a little." Keefe whined.
"You won't be living later if you make your girl too mad." Ro replied, cleaning under her claws with her dagger. "Oh, and I'll be helping her. So there's extra pain."
Keefe ignored Ro and hopped off of the zipline to look me in the eye.
"Foster, I know this isn't just about the zipline. There's something else bothering you. And if my girlfriend isn't happy with something, then it obviously needs some fixing by me, the Lord of Fixing Things." Keefe said.
Ro snorted. "More like the Lord of Messing Things Up."
"Shut up." Keefe mumbled.
"Well... I've been worried about Elwin lately. He's being... Distant. Like his mind is somewhere else." I admitted.
"Don't worry! CAPTAIN HUNKYHAIR WILL FIX IT!" He sprinted out the door as Ro and I exchanged a look and burst into laughter with some snorting included.
*****
Keefe came back three minutes later.
"He said he found a GIRLFRIEND!!" Keefe exclaimed.
My eyes widened. "WHO?"
"Tinker." Keefe replied with a smirk.
Me and Ro's jaws dropped at the same time as we shouted questions. Keefe held up his hands to stop us.
"They would be cute together, though, I have to admit..." Keefe mumbled. "Poor Elwin needs a girl to hold him together." He winked at me and I blushed.
"Smooooooth." Ro said.
"Anywaaay, I've already planned their date. It's happening in like..." He checked the clock. "Fifteen minutes."
"Then let's spy on them!" Ro squealed.
Once everybody agreed, we got ready.
*****
Keefe insisted that we all wear black. He did weird ninja summersaults that made me and Ro roll out eyes until we got to the restaurant.
"There they are." I whispered as we watched them through the window. I saw both of them wave at each other and greet each other before they sat at the same table.
They talked for a while. Then after they ate, they went on a porch swing that faced the lake as the moon stood over the water.
They talked until Tinker leaned in closer.
"Why do I never have snacks when I need them?!" Ro complained.
We both gave her the side eye and spun around just as Keefe whispered to me, "Looks like us." And Elwin and Tinker's lips met. "Mission accomplished."
*Sorry about the slooow writing. I'll make it better soon, I promise. Thanks for still reading this stuff.
