(Keefe's POV)
Sophie took me home. Well... It didn't feel like home, because I didn't remember this place, but apparently I rented it.
We got into the elevator, and that's when I decided to ask my question, "So... When am I gonna get my memories back?" I hated how my voice trembled.
Sophie's eyes met mine as she whispered words that terrified me.
"I don't know."
Then she slipped my hand into hers and dragged me down the hallway to our apartment. She twisted the key in the lock and opened it.
By the door were fuzzy alicorn and Batman slippers. I put my shoes next to them.
Then I watched Sophie slip her sneakers onto the shoe rack and slip into her alicorn slippers. Then I copied her with my Batman slippers (apparently they're mine).
She gave me an amused smile.
"You're getting the hang of things." She said quietly. "Are you hungry?"
"Super hungry." I agreed. She frowned when she saw my smile. Like something was wrong. Then she turned away quickly before pulling out a tray of something that looked like melted marshmallows.
"What's that?" I asked.
Sophie's eyes widened. "You forgot about mallowmelt?"
"I guess so."
She wouldn't look at me as she cut a slice. "Then you get the first taste."
She handed me a plate with the weird marshmallow thing and when I took a bite, the flavors exploded in my mouth.
"That's really good. But, um... Do you have anything to drink?" I asked. She handed me a glass of pink lemonade. I frowned. "Do you have regular lemonade?"
Her jaw dropped. "You... You love pink lemonade."
"Oh." I stared at the glass and drank it anyway. "Thanks."
She stared at her feet as she disappeared into a room that looked like our bedroom. I knocked, and when she didn't answer, I gently nudged the door open and sat beside her on the bed.
"I'm sorry I'm not acting like... Me." I mumbled. "Maybe if you told me how I'm supposed to act, I could-"
"Keefe, you don't have to change yourself for me."
"But I wouldn't be changing myself. I would be... Reminding myself of how I act." I argued.
"No, Keefe, I can't ask you to do that." She whispered. Then she walked out of the room. I frowned. As I moved to stand up, I slipped on my slipper and landed on my butt, on the floor. That's when I noticed something under the bed.
A notebook. A gold notebook.
I picked it up. The front said: Do not open. Belongs to Keefe Sencen.
Obviously, I was gonna open it.
I flipped to the first page. It was a drawing of me and Sophie on the beach, holding hands with a pretty sunset over the water. A smile spread across my face as I kept flipping pages.
The last page was a picture of me and Sophie sitting on a staircase. She held my hand gently. The words below it said: "Lots of people care about you, Keefe."
And at the very bottom it said, "Foster, I didn't know this before, but now I'm glad to know that people care about me. But... You care about me the most. And, even though I don't deserve you, I care about you more than all of them ever could."
Do I normally call her Foster? Is that why she seemed upset when I called her Sophie?
She came into the room, "Honey- sorry, um... I mean, Keefe-"
"It's okay, Foster. I don't mind." I whispered.
A smile spread across her face. Then she glanced down at the notebook in my hands. "What's that?"
"Well... I think the cover matches the color of your eyes." I said, holding it up. She blushed.
"You've never let me... Look in it." She mumbled. I could tell she was curious. But I figured that the normal version of me wouldn't want her to see this, so I tucked it behind my back.
"Sorry. Can't." I said quickly. She sat on the bed, helping me off the ground.
"Why were you on the floor?" She asked.
"Umm... I... Fell for you?" I stammered. She blushed, smiled, and shook her head all at once.
"You have no idea how much I missed you." She whispered, leaning on me. I hesitated before putting my arm around her and laying my head on top of hers.
"Well... I bet normal me misses you too." I said. The words came out wrong, but she just giggled. I tilted her chin up with my finger and kissed her.
*****
The next morning, Sophie- I mean Foster seemed grumpy. I made her some coffee and then she was back to normal.
"So... Are you gonna tell me what I act like now?" I asked quietly.
She stiffened before pulling out her phone. She typed furiously.
"Umm... What are you doing?" I asked.
"I might as well show you." She said. She turned her phone around and pushed the play button on the video.
*Hope that was good! I just wanna get to the good part!!! But I guess suspense is part of the plan... (The plan I have in my head)
