Chapter 5 - Part 1

Start from the beginning

- So how do you know each other?, continued Gabriel. Although he probably already knew by the amused expression he was wearing.

- Robin is my ex, I heard myself say. Cheeks burned with full force after those words.

- The only girlfriend Robin had, then? Gabriel said teasingly. Robin gave him a warning look.

If the meeting between us could get any worse, Gabriel managed to do just that

If the meeting between us could get any worse, Gabriel managed to do just that. Even so, I couldn't escape a feeling of triumph. So he hasn't met anyone after me? In the three years we've been apart? It was still me who was the hurting partner of us. And getting this information healed the wounds a little. I felt rotten for that feeling, but at the same time it couldn't be helped.

Frida was the one who saved me from the situation by calling my name from the church door. I cleared my throat quickly and excused myself. My whole body trembled when I walked against Frida. I suddenly became painfully aware of every step I took.

 - So much evil there was! So much fighting and violence! People had forgotten God and were mean to each other!, I laughed and slapped the book away from Frida.

It were half hearty, half despairing laughs I gave her. Actually, I knew she wanted to cheer me up, but right then I couldn't appreciate her gesture. Or her story that she now reads aloud from the "children's Bible":

- But there was one man who kept peace with others: Noah was his name. "Build a boat," said God. And Noah began to build a boat. When the rain came, Noah, his wife and sons and all kinds of animals went into the boat. It rained until there was water everywhere. Many months passed and the earth was so empty. But then a wind blew, God's wind, and the water began to recede. Noah let a dove fly..., she continued but I interrupted her.

- Please... stop, I whispered, as my dry lips slightly trembling.

One look at me said everything she needed to know and with a sigh she closed the book. Then she let silence fall over both of us and the world outside.
