Once they were back, they decided to make use of the charming outdoor seating area that overlooked a small pond. Donut lit the provided fire pit, and soon, the warm glow of the fire illuminated their faces. They sat close together, wrapped in a blanket, sipping on hot cocoa they found in the kitchen.
"This is perfect," Barf Bag sighed, leaning her head on Donut's shoulder. "I feel so at peace here."
Donut smiled, kissing the top of her head. "Me too. This was such a good idea. We should definitely make this a regular thing."
Barf Bag nodded in agreement, feeling a sense of tranquility wash over her. They sat in comfortable silence, watching the fire flicker and listening to the sounds of nature around them. For the first time in a long while, they felt completely at ease.
However, that feeling of ease was short-lived, as thoughts of the reason why the two of them went on this trip started filling her head. The day at the splash pad started filling her head again, as she tried to hold back the tears she so desperately wanted to forget about.
Donut saw this, and instantly knew that something was wrong. He took his arm and wrapped it around her body, hoping that his presence would at least calm her down a little bit. He knew pretty quickly what was going on, and tried to soothe her as much as he could.
"Barfy, it's just the two of us," Donut said, "anything you want to talk to me about, you don't have to worry about the rest of the team judging us."
Barf Bag sighed, "I know the team meant well by sending us here...but I just can't let our struggle go. Even once we get home, it's not like I'm magically going to be pregnant all the sudden. We still have a lot ahead of us."
Donut nodded, understanding her fears and frustrations. "I know, sweetheart. This retreat isn't a magic fix. It's just a chance for us to recharge and find some peace together. We still have our journey ahead of us, but we don't have to face it alone."
Barf Bag took a deep breath, trying to let go of the tension she was holding onto. "You're right. It's just... hard sometimes, you know? Seeing everyone else moving forward, and feeling like we're stuck."
Donut pulled her closer, kissing her temple softly. "I know. And it's okay to feel that way. But we're in this together. We'll keep trying, and we'll keep supporting each other. No matter what."
Barf Bag nodded, her tears finally spilling over. "Thank you, Donut. I don't know what I'd do without you."
He wiped her tears away gently, his eyes full of love. "And I don't know what I'd do without you, Barfy. We're a team, and we'll get through this together."
They sat in silence for a while, the fire crackling softly in front of them. Gradually, Barf Bag felt a sense of calm return. She knew the road ahead wouldn't be easy, but with Donut by her side, she felt ready to face whatever came their way.
As the night grew darker and the stars began to twinkle overhead, they decided to head inside. The bed was warm and inviting, and they snuggled close, finding comfort in each other's presence.
The next morning, they woke up feeling more refreshed than they had in months. They spent the day exploring the surrounding area, taking in the beauty of nature and enjoying each other's company. They laughed, they talked, and for a little while, they allowed themselves to simply be happy.
"Thanks for spending this time with me, Donut," Barf Bag said.
Donut's eyes widened, "who else would I want to spend more time with then you? You know, there's a reason I married you out of all people."
Barf Bag laughed, then gave Donut a giant kiss of the forehead.
By the time they returned home, they felt refreshed, and ready to get back with the people they loved the most. The team welcomed them back with open arms, eager to hear about their trip and offer their support.
"How was it?" Pin asked, her eyes shining with curiosity.
"It was amazing," Barf Bag replied, a genuine smile on her face. "We really needed it. Thank you all so much for making it happen."
Donut nodded in agreement. "It gave us a chance to recharge and remember why we're fighting so hard. We're ready to keep going."
The team exchanged looks of relief and happiness, glad to see their friends looking so refreshed and positive. They knew the journey wasn't over, but they also knew that together, they could face anything.
That evening, as they all sat around the dinner table, the house filled with laughter and warmth. Barf Bag and Donut shared stories from their retreat, and the team listened eagerly, happy to see their friends so at ease.
Later, as they settled into bed, Barf Bag turned to Donut, her heart full of gratitude. "I love you so much. Thank you for always being there for me."
Donut smiled, pulling her close. "I love you too, Barfy. And I'll always be here, no matter what."
As they drifted off to sleep, they felt a sense of peace and hope. The road ahead might be long and difficult, but they knew they could face it together. And for now, that was more than enough.
