We'll talk all night

We'll talk all night,
then we'll never speak again.
That's the agreement,
but we never agreed on when.
So another night passes
and we've been talking all day.
I think it might be harder honesty
to say goodbye in this way.
One last moment.
And then that's all we have.
You'll kiss the side of my head
while you hail me a cab.
But not yet eventually.
Today there's still time left.
If we don't stay up all night,
our love won't yet feel bereft.
You wipe tears from my eyes,
and your presence feels so peaceful.
Like no matter where we are.
Even if we never spoke again.
Our feelings would still be on par.
And there we sit in silence,
with an agreement never made.
I lean my shoulders into your chest,
while I watch the darkness fade.
And you put your chin on my hair.
You hear me start to cry.
You hold me so much tighter,
lay your hand on my thigh.
Like you're memorizing or understanding
the things that must end.
We could never do long distance,
but I wish we would append.
The agreement, the reason,
that it would never work out,
the tears fall faster then I can wipe them.
I wanted to say;
"You'll be who every song is about".
So I look behind me in awe.
There's a notebook, a red bow.
"You're every poem that I ever saw."
And I open the first page.
"Dedicated to the man of my dreams."
"Heartbreak may be inevitable,
but this heartbreak is not what it seems."
And then every rhyme
is about how we'll meet again.
Somewhere in the future.
You'll be more to me then just a friend.
When the call comes in,
both eyes grow in size.
"You've been accepted!"
One of us excitedly cries.
"The same place!"
After waiting to hear the best of news.
The last page.
"You, I would always choose."
