Omniscient's pov
When observing people's faces to understand what they're feeling, we struggle, not for the difference in facial physionomy in different ethnicities, not for the different expressions we assume although exhibiting the same feelings, but for the fact that we find it challenging to uptake the same task on ourselves.
How weird, right? This face, this nose, this sunken or full cheeks, those eyes and ears, we have had them for so long, further more we use them daily, yet we don't see, nor notice anything. We are so conditioned to exhibit almost a real facial paralysis when it comes to our emotions, that it's almost like we're 8 again, and that friend makes fun of us for being scared of the fair haunted house, so you, like me change your your expression to a less obvious one, maybe even too convincing, and your brain adapts and rewires itself to view your scared expression in the likeness of a happy or neutral expression. And because our brain, that stands by the ignorance of the existence of our eyes, is a particularly professional liar, we are pushed to match whatever sad, angry, tired, sleepy, confused emotions.
Ironically enough such process prevents us realizing we're not happy, frustrated or simply hurt even though we smile all the time and others as well.
"Are you sure you're not just doing this for yourself? So you could feel good!" the veins on Ji Hoon's neck popping as he woke with contempt "I just want what's best for you, for the kids, when the only thing you can think about is DYING!" hurtful words like daggers pierced Ji Hoon. His eyes moist, brows drew together and face paled in a fraction of second, caught by surprise and eventually overwhelmed by the other party's pheromones, he stiffened his posture and lost his footing...
Before he could completely crush on the floor, the omega gripped the kitchen counter with one hand, turning around his and his son position so he would be on top, Dohyun's hand circled his son's head to protect it from the fall, "Ji Hoon-ah!" was all the older man witnessing the scene had managed to say even before his body reacted to Ji Hoon falling. Ji Hoon bumped his back on the counter's drawers, the impact so strong that had him let go of the counter that he had used to prevent slipping, hissing in pain one last time while his back began to hurt in the last blow against the counter. Jae Beom, having gottten startled bursted out weeping harder than before, "Ji Hoon, are you okay?" Min Sik rushed sweeping out from the compliant omega, his eyes unable to hide the pained expression.
Min Sik offered Dohyun a helping hand to stand, which the prideful younger man refused, massaging the wrist he had accidentally twisted trying to brace for the fall, "I'm fine, no need to pretend that you care now..." muttered Ji Hoon, looking over to Jae Beom making sure that his son was alright. The baby's cries further aggravated Ji Hoon's mood, it felt like he wasn't enough and no matter what he did he'd ended up hurting his children, Ji Hoon drank some water, attempting to cool his anger.
There were obviously loads of feelings involved, that had gone unspoken and rotten over time, thus being spilled as insults and sarcasm, both of which hindered the communication of the two. On Ji Hoon's part nobody could attest to the loneliness upon finding out, that the person, he had become worry free to leave his daughter to, had left him. On Min Sik's part instead he had been there for the little girl at every stage, whenever he could, an external party may be wondering why the alpha had not brought back little Min Ji, since he knew where she was staying after her and her mother's separation, and the response most adequate response to that would be an answer on the other part "Who was he?".
"Why? Why try at all? Why give me the illusion? If when I need you the most you're going to flee, just like you left and didn't come back for Min Ji's birth! I was a teenager, I was scared and alone, you were the only one I could trust a little... And yet you still didn't take pity on me!". The room came to a silence, letting the two parties marinate on the event none of them had imagined to have shaped their relationship so much, Ji Hoon instantly embarrassed of his words, retracted his figure taking few steps back, his gaze cowering to the ground. He didn't want to admit it, he had refused to admit how three years ago he had briefly considered the alpha a reliable person, not for himself but for his daughter. He despised and resented Min Sik even more for that, all the things the man had done to ensure the baby's well being, had been suddenly misinterpreted as a trap or a badly told joke.
