How do morals play into 18+ writing?

- people have always loved to write about the forbidden
- it's a messed up topic, but there's nothing wrong with having fantasies that are generally seen as unethical or morally wrong
- As long as you can separate your imagination from the real life
- I know I said before that it is not cool to write about certain things
- I take that partially back, I'll explain why

1) The issue
- young people are on Wattpad and they should stay away from all the books about toxic relationships, everyone knows that
- The problem isn't the books with toxic relationships, it's that enough people can't spot them or can't identify them as 'only fiction' and not actually good relationships
- you'll be surprised how many young Wattpad kids want a partner who stalks or is controlling etc
- that's why I've mentioned in previous chapters to stay away from certain topics and tropes, which is a good advice, but obviously a lot of people still want to write about their fantasies, and I'm not gonna stop them

2) Morally grey/dark tropes (examples)
- R@pe
- !ncest
- Stockholm/lima syndrome
- psychological manipulation
- underage drinking
- underage s3x
- cann!balism
- abuse
- t0rture
- toxic relationships
- dubious consent
- p3d0philia
- non-consentual body modification

3) How to do them right
- I have one rule that I personally apply to anyone, and it is to KEEP REAL MINORS OUT OF 18+ CONTENT
- if you write real people fanfiction, make sure they are of age
- if you desperately want to write about minors, take someone of age and make them as a minor in your story if you can't avoid it
- don't write about young singers/actors/artists/people of any kind if they are under 18 you keep them out of your smutty stories, it's sexualization of minors and not justifiable

- other than that, put disclaimers!
- warn your readers what's coming for them
- make sure everyone knows that this is fiction, and that it is not acceptable behavior in real life
- this is very important on this app!
- if you write about a toxic relationship, say it (if you don't know yourself you probably shouldn't be writing on Wp at all)
- I know I sound mean but 12 year old kids aren't supposed to publish smut, if you don't like my opinion, read something else
- if you are young and want to write smut, do it on your phone or computer, and leave it there, you'll thank me in some years
- I started writing smut at 14, am so glad I never published any of it

- if you are over the age of 16/17 I recommend switching to another Plattform anyways that has a more mature audience
- if you are young and you want to publish your fanfics on Wp, at least get yourself a beta reader who's older than you (at least by a few years)

-Separate reality from fiction and keep your stories fictional.-

4) How to put disclaimers & inform/warn your readers

- On Wattpad your only option is to put it in the beginning of your chapter or the book description
- I still recommend putting disclaimers in the beginning of chapters that contain any of the named tropes above or other unethical things you may have thought of
- I have talked about warnings in the chapter about dubious consent, I recommend checking that out for help
- I did see some people saying "I'm sorry this is so hardcore haha" because the character had a daddy kink or something, you obviously won't need a warning or disclaimer for that, so be realistic
- Even if it spoilers part of your story, disclaimers are absolutely mandatory if you write about a troublesome topic
- tell your readers what to expect and how bad it's gonna be, also tell them that you are actively discouraging this behavior; this is very important you don't want anyone accusing you of encouraging nonconsensual behaviors etc

5) For the authors
- If you follow all the rules, you put disclaimers, you distance yourself from toxic behavior, you separate fiction from reality, there are really no rules for what you're not allowed to write
- people like messed up things, people enjoy the forbidden, especially when it comes to smut
- don't let anyone tell you you're not allowed to write about something that you like
- don't let any kids on Wp k!nk shame you
- some people use these topics as a way to cope with trauma, and that's okay
- some people use these topics to heal something from their past, and that's okay
- some people just enjoy really messed up things, and that's okay
- if you stick to the simple rule of being transparent and honest to your readers, and separating your stories from reality, you're allowed to write whatever makes you happy

This is a risky topic but I needed to include it because it's a bigger issue than it looks like. I'd say the more extreme stuff isn't found a lot on Wp but it's full with toxicity and it's influencing young people every day who then get unrealistic and disturbing expectations of what a healthy relationship looks like.

I hope this chapter was helpful to at least some, let me know your opinion in the comments, I am open to constructive criticism and my mind can be changed with reason if you disagree with me.
