The Encounter

Everybody chases for their own different definitions of success in this lifetime.

I used to think that people should just work hard or smart –whatever suits– to have the life they desire. I used to think that life on earth is just that: dreaming, working for that dream, and living that dream. I used to think that everybody eventually get their happy endings.

But some people die –with so much unaccomplished, with so many things undone.

So I came to think that people should not just work hard or smart –whatever suits– to have the life they desire. I came to think that life on earth is not just that: dreaming, working for that dream, and living that dream. I came to think that not everybody eventually get their happy endings here.

And I came to think that life on earth can be nonsense: nonsense if we're chasing the wrong success.

If success is wealth and I died still working hard and poor, life was nonsense.
If success is fame and I died still underrated or unknown, life was nonsense.
If success is an own happy family and I died having none, life was nonsense.
If success is good retirement years and I died really young, life was nonsense.

I came to think that life on earth is short and temporary; we're not promised of tomorrows here. Life on earth can be useless if we spend our limited time for things that will not really matter.

Because if success is living the life I desired but suffering for eternity, life is still nonsense.
