Briar-League University - Excellent college that specializes in oddling-related degrees.

Baron(ess)/Baron-Class Aryta - Type of aryta that lives longer and develops an oddity when they reach adulthood.

Celest Swanson - Leah's mom.

Corpse Rider - Aryta who inhabits a dead host.

Dariala - Elva's queen.

Day-Sibling - An aryta's day-siblings are the other arytas hatched on the same day as they were.

Elsewalker - Aryta term for humans.

Elva vor Dariala - Aryta who inhabits Leah.

Ethan Walker - Guardian trainee nicknamed "Blitz" who can shapeshift into an elephant; Mark's twin brother.

First-Host - Aka child-host, the host arytas are given when they complete their two-year physical exam.

Government Camp - Ski village at the base of Mount Hood; contains a government research facility specializing in Otherealm research.

Guardian - Someone who has a guardian license.

Guardian Agent - Someone who uses a guardian license to fight crime in a Guardian agency.

Guardian License - License to use one's oddities in a professional (and usually high-risk) setting.

Henry Swanson - Leah's dad.

Hero-for-Hire - Aka freelance hero or freelance guardian; someone who fights crime using their oddity.

Host - Animal or person that is controlled by an aryta.

Kiara - Guardian trainee nicknamed "Animatress" who can bring inanimate objects to life.

King - Father of an aryta colony.

Launching Tree - Otherealm tree used for aryta coming-of-age ceremonies.

Leah Swanson- Human who died in a car crash; Elva's host; Celest and Henry's daughter.

Lucille's - Popular/trendy cafe in Sandy that specializes in weird oddling deserts and drinks.

L'var - Small baron aryta.

Mark Walker - Guardian trainee nicknamed "Glacius" who can shapeshift into a small frost dragon with healing venom; Ethan's twin brother.

Mount Hood Village - A village in Oregon where Leah lived.

New Realm - Company that discovered the Otherealm and makes products powered by small Otherealm portals.

Oddity - Physical or mental mutation that often includes unique powers.

Oddling - Human with an oddity.

Olivia - Guardian trainee nicknamed "Reflekt" with mirrored skin.

Oregon Oddling University (OOU) - Briar League university in Portland, Oregon.

Otherealm - Dimension parallel to Earth's with a thick, moist, cold atmosphere.

"Poking the (Rabid) Vez" - Aryta phrase meaning to anger someone dangerous.

Preni - Large worker aryta.

Queen - Mother of an aryta colony.

Realm Leech - Synonym for aryta.

Red Fever - Common illness among aryta hosts.

Rekki's - Popular lunch/dinner restaurant in Portland, Oregon.

Robin Walker - Mark's and Ethan's actress mother.

Sandy - A small town in Oregon near where Leah lived.

Seor - Crab-like animal from the Otherealm.

Tachak - Tiger-like animal from the Otherealm that has opposable thumbs and lives in trees.

Tashi - Elva's day-sister and rival.

Telelocation - Aryta ability to use telepathic waves to sense their environment.

Vez - Intelligent, bear-like creature from the Otherealm.

Var - Aryta middle name that means "son of."

Vor - Aryta middle name that means "daughter of."

Vincent - Guardian trainee nicknamed "Merman" who can control water.

"With Your Tail Curled" - Aryta phrase meaning to do something in a cowardly manner.
