"I really need to go," Logan deflected, his tone evasive as he moved towards the door.
"No, you're running away," I insisted, my desperation evident in my voice as I blocked his path, unwilling to let him escape without addressing the issue at hand.
He stopped short, his jaw tensing as he regarded me with a mixture of irritation and resignation. Without a word, he started walking towards me. I braced myself, expecting him to finally confront me, but to my surprise, he grabbed me by the shoulders and gently moved me to the side so he could walk past.
I followed him to the living room, where he was gathering his wallet and car keys with hurried movements. "Logan," I called out.
He paused, his hand hovering over his keys as he turned to face me. There was a moment of silence between us.
"I can't do this right now, Genesis," he said finally. "I need some time to clear my head."
I felt a pang of disappointment shoot through me, but I knew better than to push him further. With a heavy heart, I nodded, silently conceding defeat.
"Okay," I replied softly, my voice barely above a whisper. "But promise me we'll talk about this soon."
Logan met my gaze, his expression unreadable. Instead of saying anything, he just opened the door and left. The sound of the door closing behind him echoed through the room, leaving me standing alone in the silence.
As I watched him go, a sinking feeling settled in the pit of my stomach. It was clear that what had happened between us was not as insignificant as I had tried to convince myself it was.
That didn't go well. At all.
He literally avoided me like the plague.
With a heavy sigh, I sank onto the couch, the weight of the tension pressing down on me like a leaden blanket. I reached for my phone, my fingers tracing familiar patterns as I dialed a number that by now I knew all too well.
Thankfully, Vanessa answered within the first two rings of the phone.
"Hey, Nessa," I greeted, my voice betraying the strain of the situation. "Can we talk for a sec? I could really use some advice."
There was a pause on the other end of the line, filled with the static of anticipation. I could almost picture Vanessa on the other side, her brow furrowed in concern as she waited for me to continue.
If anyone could understand my situation, it was my childhood best friend. After all, she had practically lived with us for years while dating my brother. There must have been hundreds of awkward interactions between them. I needed some guidance.
"So he just left?" Vanessa's voice carried a mix of concern and disbelief as I recounted the events of the morning.
"He didn't!" Vanessa's voice rang out with surprise and concern, her disbelief palpable even through the phone.
"I asked him to talk to me about it but he wouldn't. He just said he needed to go to the studio, which is kinda unfair because if we fight he gets to leave and I have to stay because I can't get out until Alexa allows me to," I explained, frustration seeping into my words.
Vanessa let out a sympathetic sigh. "He's avoiding the conversation."
"I don't know how to get through to him."
"You know, even before we started dating, your brother once caught me naked when I was still living with your family."
"And what did you do then?" I inquired, curious to hear how she had handled the situation.
