BRIGHT

I woke to the sound of birds chirping, a beautiful morning sunlight peering through the curtains, and Win's soft breathing next to me.

I couldn't help but smile at his beauty as I watched him sleep. I leaned in and kissed him soft on the forehead, not wanting to wake him just yet.

He stirred and then opened his eyes, looking up at me with that smile that I loved so much.

"Good morning, love," he said, stretching his arms above his head, and I couldn't help but chuckle.

He always seemed to have so much energy first thing in the morning, while I needed a few cups of coffee before I was ready to tackle the day.

Still, his enthusiasm was infectious, and I found my energy levels rising with each passing moment.

We got out of bed, and Win headed into the bathroom to brush his teeth while I made coffee.

The smell of fresh-brewed coffee filled the air, and I set out two mugs on the kitchenette table.

It wasn't much, but it was ours, and I felt a sense of satisfaction in the knowledge that we were building a life together, one mug of coffee and morning routine at a time.

"Do you have band practice today?" Win asked.
"Yeah, after school at four pm to seven pm."
"Alright. Come to my dorm after the practice, okay?"
"How could I say no to that, sweetie." I kissed his cheek, making him blush.

After our so-called breakfast, we went to school.

Despite our best efforts to blend in with the other boys and girls, our love was still a secret to everyone but ourselves and our friends.

The thought of being discovered by someone at school filled us with a mix of nervousness.

We tried not to let it affect our relationship, but there was always that fear in the back of our minds.

But no matter what, we still had each other, and that made us feel strong. We were in this together, no matter what the world threw at us.

As we walked through the school hallways, hand in hand, we did our best to act casual and blend in with the other students.
When it was time to go separate ways, I gave him the "Love you" hand sign, and he gave me a blow kiss.

"Bright, hey! You wanna join us?" Perth and the other two were studying in the empty architecture canteen.

"Okaaayyy."

They all strangely looked at me.

"You seem to be in a good mood." Winny laughed, "Where is our old grumpy Bright?"

"He's gone. Pheeww."

We all burst out laughing at the same time.

"So how are yall boyfriends doing?" I asked.
"Me and Chimon are only friends." Perth irritably said.
"Only friends, huh. Interesting." I grinned.

"Well, me and Phuwin were on a movie date yesterday."
"Me and Win, too!!" I added.

"Satang and I came out to our parents yesterday. They support us." Winny told us, looking all smily.

That's when realization struck me.

It was a scary thought, but I knew that it was one that we would have to face eventually.

For now, Win and I were enjoying our secret relationship, relishing the moments we got to spend together without any worries.

But eventually, we would have to tell our parents about it, and I couldn't help but wonder how they would react.

I hope that they will be supportive and understanding.

After my band practice, I wanted to go to Win's dorm as planned.

My heart skipped a beat as I heard my father's voice coming from my phone. I hadn't heard from him in months, and the sound of his angry tone made my stomach sink.

I quickly tried to calm myself down and listen to what he had to say. I was so focused on trying to make out every word that I didn't even realize that I had walked right past Win's dorm room.

"Bright, where the hell are you?" my father's voice shouted through the phone.

My heart raced, and I felt a sense of panic. I quickly explained that I had band practice and had planned to see 'my friend' Wim afterward.

I could hear my father's anger growing as I spoke, and I knew that this conversation was not going to go well.

"You are not going anywhere, you hear me?" he continued to yell. "Yok is coming to pick you up. We will have a conversation at home."

I felt a sense of despair wash over me as I realized that my father would never accept me or Win.

I gave Win a quick call to let him know that I wouldn't be able to make it to the dorm room.
He was a bit disappointed but understood the predicament I was in and wished me well.

I put my phone away, feeling a pit in my stomach as the events of the day so far started to sink in.

Just as I was starting to calm myself down, my driver, Yok, pulled up to the entrance of the villa.

He had been with my family for years and was well-respected, but I couldn't help but worry about how he would handle this situation.

As the car pulled up, I could see my father waiting by the front door.

He was clearly angry, his face red and his expression tight. When he saw me, his anger escalated.

"Get out of the car," he demanded. "We need to talk."

Without a word, I opened the door and stepped out of the car. Yok quietly parked the car and followed us into the house.

As we walked through the foyer, my father's anger continued to escalate.

I could hear him muttering under his breath and knew that he was working himself up.
When we entered the living room, he turned to me and let loose a torrent of rage.

He picked up his phone and showed me a picture of me and Win kissing in the park.

My eyes widened.

"I don't want you to date a male."

"Huh? Wh- Why can't I? You are the one that always told me to do whatever I like, ever since mom died?!!"

"DON'T BRING YOUR MOTHER INTO THIS. I KNOW WHAT IS GOOD OR BAD FOR YOU. I'M YOUR FATHER, YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO ME!"

"WHAT KIND OF SHITTY FATHER YOU ARE TO MAKE YOUR SON FEEL BAD!?"

My own father slapped me hard in the face at the exact moment.

"I WANT YOU TO FOCUS ON SCHOOL AND IF YOU FUCKING CAN'T DO THAT YOU SHOULD DIE JUST LIKE YOUR MOTHER DID!"

I would feel my tears dripping down to my cheeks.

This is too much.
