Still reeling in the aftermath of Ichida's death, Michiko navigates the new environment of the Beach. With the new encounters she has in this den of debauchery, where the rules are few, she doesn't know who to trust. Her hatred for the man who killed Ichida simmers below the surface into a desire to seek revenge. She resolves to see it carried out.
In the meanwhile, Chishiya hatches his own schemes to rob the Beach's leader and make his escape, in hopes that his plans bear an answer to the world around them. However, doubt creeps in as he decides upon the pawns to be used.
Both players live in the confusion of an ever growing string that binds them together, neither quite knowing what it means. Michiko has trouble stitching together Chishiya's true intentions behind his puzzling actions.
And Chishiya struggles to understand this slowly forming attachment he holds towards a girl that was never meant to be his responsiblity. The longer he spends around her, the more he feels that sense of responsibility grow against his his own wishes.
