"Shane, you're so sweet." You couldn't help but feel a little overwhelmed with emotions.

"Hey, hey." His big gruff hand gently cupped your face, his thumb rubbing your cheek lovingly. He tried to calm you down by changing the subject. "Enough of that. Tell me what you made. It smells so good, babe."

You explained as you went and sat on your spot in the bed. Breakfast was over far too quickly for your planning, and you needed to make sure that you were keeping Shane stalled. Before you could say anything, your husband suggested an idea. "Want to go for a walk? Maybe we could walk around the Cindersap forest and then we could stop by Marnie's?"

"Oh, uh, sure." You replied, a little too fast, as you tried to think of something to keep him from arriving at his party too soon. "We should do that this evening when the sun is setting. It would be so romantic."

He agreed without any pushback as he turned his attention to other matters. "Well, we should probably get started on the farm work." He yawned, stretching his arms out. "I don't want to stay in bed all day."

"Well I can think of a pretty good reason to keep you in bed." You winked, coming on to your husband.

"Oh?" His eyes lit up delightedly.

You quickly realized you didn't want to lead him on too far, you had other plans for the day. "Uh huh, but not yet." You reached up and twirled some of his hair between your fingers. "But I promise, we'll do that soon."

"Hmm. Ok." He sighed overdramatically to tease you. "So. What are we doing today?"

You thought for a second, realizing you hadn't planned enough to fill the time until his party. "I was thinking we could breeze through our farm work, then maybe go for a picnic next to the pond, and then if we have time we could watch a movie or something, and when the sun starts to set we can go for a scenic walk down to Marnie's and the Forest. Does that sound like a good birthday?"

"The best." He smiled. "Actually, I think last year was the best. I mean... that would be hard to beat." He winked at you, reminding you of his first birthday that you celebrated together last year.
"I'll try my best." You winked back. "Now, we should get going before the chickens get angry."

The two of you quickly got dressed before tending to the farm. While the two of you typically split the responsibilities, you taking the produce and farming while Shane took care of the animals. However today, you insisted on going with Shane to the chicken coop, under the guise of spending time together on his birthday. But in reality, you just wanted to see the look on his face when he saw the surprise that was waiting for him at the chicken coop.

While the two of you had gone to the Saloon the night before, you had hired Robin for an after-hours carpentry job. She came over and made a huge addition to the coop, adding much more space along with egg incubators, automatic feeders, and built-in nesting boxes for easier egg collection. The cherry on top, however, was a little nook in the corner of the coop that Robin had set up to be a relaxing little place for Shane to spend time with the chickens. There was a small sofa, an (empty) bookshelf, a cute little window (to air out to the nook), and a mini refrigerator.

It had cost a pretty penny, especially since it was a rush job at night, but every cent of it was worth it for your husband. You knew it took him a lot of work to manage his emotions and maintain the strides he had made in life, so you wanted a separate place on the farm for him to relax and just watch the chickens jump around. Plus, in the winter, Shane often trekked out the coop in the middle of the night to check on the chickens when the temperatures were freezing. You had tucked a little space heater into the corner to make sure that he could stay warm next year when it got cold again.

The two of you were almost to the coop when Shane realized something was different. "Whaa-"

"Surprise!" You cheered, opening the door and following him inside. "Happy birthday, honey!"

"What is all this?" He looked around the once measly little shack. "This is amazing. Oh my Yoba."

You couldn't help but beam. "You like it?"

"I love it." He looked back at you, eyes wide. "Oh my yoba, I love it!" He picked you up and twirled you around excitedly. "Wow. When did you do this? How much did this cost you?"

"Doesn't matter." You waved your hand, brushing him off. "I'm just so glad you like it." You continued to show him all of the new features, not just the huge increase in the space. "We can get way more chickens now, or even hatch our own!"

"Wow, this is just amazing." He smiled. "Thank you so much, (Y/N). I love you so much."

"Of course! Happy birthday, Shane!" You grinned before pulling him in for another kiss. "I love you too."
