Chapter twenty-four

A loud SMACK wakes me out of my doze in a jolt. Emma is straight back right next be me watching out of the porthole. "What was that?" I ask than  another loud SMACK rings through the sub. Emma turns to me her face white as a ghost. "I.. I don't know I have never seen one before." She responds staring out of the porthole. I look out and it's a large sea creature with long noodle like tentacles. A crashing SMACK shakes the sub as one of its suction cups hits the porthole I am looking out of. "Take a deep breath Emma it's a squid. A large one but definitely a squid." I say more to myself than Emma trying to calm my anxiety. SMACK the squid hits the sub again. I start turning the wheels all over the place causing the squid to swim away and my stomach turns queasy from the wild movement of the sub

I right the sub and go back to the surface of the water the same way it has been for the last 2 days now. I am loosing hope that we will ever find land. Emma rummaged through some of the supplies that were already in here. She found a bottle of water, some dried fruits, a knife, and a pack of bullets for the gun I found in Micah's bedroom. We have a small bit of water left but we finished the tiny amount of dried fruit we had this morning. My stomach churns thinking of the dried strawberries. It was the first time we have ever had fruit. It was a delightful treat, I didn't know fruit could be so sweet.

The squid must have steered us into the right direction. Just as the sun starts to set washing the color orange over the bright blue ocean I see a little peek of land coming through on the horizon. I tell Emma and she smiles wide flashing all of her teeth. The excitement evident on her face. My stomach churns with excitement and anxiety. This never ending sub ride is the easy part the hard part is about to come as we try to find our way through the barren waste land that lies ahead like we seen on Micah's monitor.
