Josh
I bumped into Olivia as she was going to second period.
"Hey. What happened?"
"Officer Brian Gomez wanted to ask me questions about Andrea and my relationship with you. Why didn't you tell him about our past relationship? And why did you lie about having lunch with me?"
"I didn't tell him about the relationship because it would look suspicious. And I couldn't tell him the truth about the lunch thing without getting caught."
"Why? What did you do?" She gritted through her teeth.
"I was smoking with Jarrod and Mark."
"You dumbass."
"I know."
"If you get caught, that's on you. I told him the truth, so he'll probably question you about it."
"Great. Thanks for covering for me," I said sarcastically.
"Hey. Don't get mad at me for what you did. I have nothing to do with this, nor do I want to."
I sighed.
"I know. I just didn't want him to find out."
"Josh, come on. If you did get caught, it's better that it was for this than something way worse."
"Yeah..."
"Sorry," she said and went to class.
Sure enough, Gomez asked to speak with me the same way that he spoke with Olivia.
"Joshua, I spoke with Olivia McAllen. She told me that your plan to have lunch was canceled. Why did you provide me with false information?"
I took a deep breath.
"It's because I was actually with my best friends Jarrod and Mark."
"Olivia told me about them. What did you do?"
"We hung out at Jarrod's house. His parents weren't home so we smoked marijuana," I said nervously.
"Where did you get the marijuana?"
"Jarrod had it. We were just being stupid and didn't think twice about it," I started rambling.
"That may be, but it is still a Class A misdemeanor. And providing me with false information is a Class B misdemeanor," he said.
I started shaking as he proceeded to read me my Miranda rights and handcuffed me. It felt like the entire world was watching as he escorted me out of the building.
Carmen
I was walking to my third period when I saw a crowd of students in the hallway. Curious, I joined them and gasped as I watched a cop escort Josh out of the school in handcuffs. My stomach churned. What did Josh do? I saw Olivia walking towards us.
"Hey, what happened?"
"Oh god. Josh and his best friends had been smoking on Saturday. Gomez must've already gotten the truth out of him."
"Smoking what?"
She sighed.
"Weed. They'll probably go after Jarrod and Mark next."
"God. Do you know if he did anything else?"
She narrowed her eyes.
"He didn't hurt your friend if that's what you're trying to say."
"No offense but how do you know?"
"I've known him for a long time, Carmen. Josh is a lot of things, but he isn't psycho," she said and walked off.
I stood frozen in place as I thought about it, not knowing what to believe.
