Third-Person POV

Back on Earth, two hours after Hezekiah's execution...

Jeffrey and Adelle Chamblee believed in sheer perfection in all aspects of their lives and the Chamblee family name. And when it came to unwanted flaws or distractions, they wanted none of it as they believed that such would only bring in more delays. So when the birth of Hezekiah came to light seventeen years ago (with tomorrow being eighteen years if he was still alive), they didn't believe that he would fit in their visions for the American dream since he was born out of rape.

They couldn't just abort him as they hoped since Adelle's parents were strict Catholics who were pro-life. So they left him under the care of random nannies and servants until the time came to place him in boarding schools and summer camps when he was old enough. That saved them time and energy to focus their attention to their daughters Leigh-Anne and Mariah (who were both runway-ready for the fashion and entertainment business since they took after their mother) and their twin sons Alex and Cameron since they were clones of their father.

But they knew that they couldn't keep Hezekiah out of the spotlight forever since he was coming of age, hence their plan to have him executed before his eighteenth birthday. It was efficient to have a million-dollar insurance policy on him as well as him not having any friends at school since he was seen as a loner. And since it would be their trusted bodyguards who would do the job to execute Hezekiah, neither parent would worry about getting their hands dirty.

Jeffrey and Adelle Chamblee greeted their children outside, all four of them stunned to learn of Hezekiah's "suicide" as they believed that it wasn't fitting for anyone in the family to commit such an act. But out of the four remaining children, only Cameron Nathan Chamblee believed that something was amiss in his parents' story as he took in plans for them to give his late brother a private burial.

And despite his duties to keep up appearances, he knew that he owed himself to find out the truth.

In the void...

Meanwhile, God and Lucifer met up with Louis, Gabriel, and Michael to talk about Hezekiah's arrival in the Nexus after discussing the new arrivals in heaven and hell. "The young man was surprised to learn that he wasn't coming in either of your realms, Your Graces," the gatekeeper intoned. "But he kept his composure and accepted his fate gracefully. I'm surprised that he held all of his emotions after living a not-so-charmed life on Earth."

God, looking all-powerful in his bright-white business suit that hugged his mighty frame, nodded. "He's the only creation that I wished that never entered Earth in the first place," he intoned. "I didn't want him to know what life was like for him since he was meant for rejection."

"I'm surprised that he managed to stay true to your path, brother," the black-haired brother and keeper of Hell intoned as he lit a cigar. "Then again, his heart and soul was too pure for Earth and all the trappings that I laid out for the other victims there."

"All the same, Lucifer, it is best that he remains where he is now- in the Nexus where he can finally thrive and be himself," God commented. "And with the Dalton fellow there, those two can finally be together while their time on Earth wouldn't allow it to happen. They came from two different paths, yet they were meant to be with each other."

"So what will we do now?" Gabriel asked.

"My brother and I will meet with the lad in due time, but we must let him get familiar with the Nexus world first," Lucifer intoned before giving Louis a small envelope. "Make sure that this is at the young man's home, Louis."

"Will do, sir," the gatekeeper replied. "I intend to check in with Hezekiah as soon as someone else comes in to greet the souls."

"See that you do," God said before he and his brother went to their respective realms with Gabriel and Michael following the former.

Louis sat back in his desk chair just as three more newcomers- all dressed in white clothes as a sign of their pure souls ready for heaven- came into the void. "Time to get to work," he said.

Cumulative word-count so far: 4,622 words.

There's definitely more than what meets the eye regarding Hezekiah's family as Cameron senses that something's not right. As for Lucifer and God, they're planning to see Hezekiah soon and talk about everything about his life on Earth.

But coming up next, our leading man is at Chance's place and meets more residents of the Nexus- one of them not too happy about him being here or him being friends with the jock. Oh, my! And the plot thickens already!
