Claire had been getting some bad publicity because of photographers, also the fact that the people seemed to be to thinking they're together, they're not.
So their respective management's split them up which only made the publicity worse.
So even when they're weren't supposed to, Alex made it his job to protect her, dispelling the rumours in the process.
