Katniss pov

The sensation of a gentle breeze brushing against my face awakened me from my slumber. It was Gale, my beloved partner, who stood beside me with a warm smile. His presence alone brought me immense joy and comfort. As I opened my eyes, I couldn't help but return his smile, feeling a rush of affection for him. Softly, he whispered, "Would you like to see the surprise I have for you?" Intrigued, I shook my head playfully and closed my eyes once more, teasing him with my response. "No?" he questioned, a hint of disappointment in his voice. "Well, I suppose all the effort I put into it was in vain." I let out a sigh, explaining, "I'm just waiting for my alarm to go off." Suddenly, the blaring sound of my alarm clock filled the room, causing me to startle and jump. Gale, always attentive, was right behind me, holding me tightly. His comforting words reassured me, "It's alright." With a lighthearted laugh, I replied, "I guess I'll go and see the surprises now." His smile widened, and he led me towards the workshop located in our backyard. As we entered, my eyes widened in awe and realization struck me - the surprise wasn't meant for me, but for our dear friend Hunter. A beautifully crafted wooden crib and dresser adorned the space, exuding perfection in every detail. Overwhelmed with emotion, I gasped, "Gale!" Taking a deep breath, I continued, "They're perfect!" I couldn't contain my excitement as I approached him, wrapping my arms around him as best I could, given my seven-month pregnancy. The love and thoughtfulness behind Gale's gesture touched my heart deeply. The sight of the meticulously crafted wooden crib and dresser for Hunter's baby filled me with admiration and appreciation. Every aspect of the furniture was carefully designed, reflecting the dedication and care Gale had put into this surprise. I couldn't help but express my awe, exclaiming, "Gale!" Taking a moment to compose myself, I took a deep breath and continued, "They're perfect!" Overwhelmed with gratitude, I walked towards him, embracing him as tightly as my pregnant belly allowed. In that moment, I felt an overwhelming sense of love and support from Gale, knowing that he would always go above and beyond to make those around him feel cherished and valued.

Gale pov

\She gazed at them intently for a moment, her eyes filled with awe and admiration. "Gale! They're perfect!" she exclaimed, unable to contain her excitement. With a wide smile on her face, she walked over to me and embraced me tightly. However, her growing belly hindered the embrace, causing her to pause and glance down at her protruding abdomen. "Hunter's really coming," she murmured, her voice filled with a mix of anticipation and wonder. "In two months," I gently reminded her, trying to reassure her that there was still time. She looked up at me, her eyes filled with a mixture of hope and uncertainty. "I know, but I would rather have my mom deliver the baby than Dr. Lawrence," she confessed, her voice tinged with a hint of vulnerability.

Ten minutes later, I found myself dialing the number, my heart pounding with nervousness. The dial tone seemed to stretch on forever until finally, a voice answered on the other end. "Dr. Everdeen speaking. How can I help?" I let out a sigh of relief, grateful that she had picked up. "Dr. Everdeen, it's Gale," I began, my voice filled with a mix of urgency and gratitude. Before I could continue, she interrupted me, her voice laced with concern. "Is the baby premature? Do I need to come over?" she asked, her worry evident in her tone. "No, no, Mrs. Everdeen, it's not that," I quickly reassured her, hoping to calm her down. "I was actually going to ask you a favor," I explained, my voice filled with anticipation. She eagerly responded, "Sure, what do you need?" I glanced around, searching for Katniss, before continuing. "Well, I was wondering if, in September, you could help deliver the baby," I requested, my voice filled with hope. She gasped in delight, her excitement palpable. "Really!? I would love that!" she exclaimed, her voice filled with joy. "Katniss would love it too. She told me earlier that she would want you to be there," I added, a smile forming on my face. She giggled with delight, her happiness contagious. "Well, as long as I can bring my helper," she replied mischievously. Confused, I asked, "Your helper?" She paused for a moment before clarifying and it took me a moment to realize what she said. The news hit me like a ton of bricks - Prim was alive. The shock of hearing those words reverberated through my entire being. It was as if the ground had shifted beneath my feet, leaving me reeling in disbelief. How could it be possible? Prim, who we all thought was lost in the explosion, was alive and well. The sheer magnitude of this revelation was almost too much to comprehend. As I tried to process the information, my mind raced with a million thoughts. How would Katniss react when she found out? Would she be overjoyed or would the news bring back painful memories of the past? I knew that I had to be the one to break it to her, but the weight of that responsibility felt almost unbearable. How could I possibly deliver such life-altering news to my best friend, my wife, knowing the impact it would have on her? With a heavy heart, I realized that I had no choice but to face the inevitable. I had to find the right words, the right moment, to tell Katniss that her sister was alive. The weight of this secret pressed down on me, filling me with a sense of urgency and trepidation. As I prepared myself for the difficult task ahead, I knew that nothing would ever be the same again. The world had shifted on its axis, and I was left to navigate the aftermath of this earth-shattering revelation.
