She'd never been stupid.

"The Floare showed you Carol."

His eyes raged.

"Meaning MJ said something about it, and you said something worse."

"She needed to hate – "

"She needed you to love her!" Cami defended, "She didn't need you to travel back in time! She just needed you to care enough about her now."

The anger in his expression was fleeting, showing the hurt it had been trying to cover.

"For you to say that whatever high you got from that kill no longer mattered."

It was hard not to feel cruel saying it while he stood there, about to tremble.

"Denying MJ that proves her right."

"You don't know – "

"I don't need to know!" Cami put her hands out, "Sometimes, you need someone who doesn't know to wake you up."

His shoulders curved in.

"It's her dad, Klaus."

The thing she cried for in the night.

"I don't think anything else touches that."

His eyes closed.

"You don't have to like it. You just need to stop proving MJ right."

Leaning again, Cami risked taking a step closer, dropping the anger from her voice.

"No yelling, no lashing out," She paused next to him, leaning against the wood, "Just let her have today."

Especially with Ryos downstairs.

Klaus lifted his hand towards her as her shoulder pressed into the surface, fingers gracing over the back of her knuckles. Watching as she didn't pull away, just breathing out slowly. They were both just there, resting. And, for a moment, the world almost felt nice.

"This hurts more," He murmured, "I don't know why, but it does."

More than the sire line.

But he didn't want to actually admit that out loud.

At the end of the day, that was something he could sleep off and run from; her father? Her words?

"And I don't know how to fix it."

"An apology might be a good place to start."

Klaus closed his eyes again, "I've missed your voice."
