Natasha's Birthday Pt.2

Start from the beginning

"What about Mom?" He questions.

"She'll know where we're going," Paxton reminds.

"We can call Uncle Clint?" I question, looking at Mom for approval.

"Let's do it," Mom agrees.

I call Uncle Clint, who's more than welcome to drive us to the location. It took him 15 minutes to get her, but then we got on the road. We used an old cloth to cover Mom's eyes so she wouldn't know where we were. It took us another 15 minutes to get to the location. Uncle Clint and I helped Mom out of the car and over to a bench. We waited for 15 minutes before Grandma and Aunt Lena came.

"Can I take this off now?" Mom questions.

"Yes, you may," Grandma says.

Mom takes off the cloth and gasps at the sight. We were at her favorite place of all time. This hill had three benches around a campfire. Then was a secluded area with a path that led down to a beach. Mom always went here when she was sad or wanted to get away from Paxton and me, and that's why this is her favorite spot.

"We knew this was your favorite spot," Paxton starts.

"And Grandma said the best way to spend a birthday is with somebody," I continue.

"So, we knew this was your favorite spot, and we're your favorite people," He says.

"This would make your birthday better," I finish.

"My birthday was already perfect when you guys showed me the video and made me cry," Mom says, embracing Paxton and me in a hug.

"They made you cry," Aunt Lena starts.

"You are soft," She finishes.

"Shut up. Weren't you the one crying the other day because your ice cream fell?" Mom questions, and Aunt Lena's cheeks turn pink.

"At least I don't cry over a video," She fires back.

"Yeah, but you cried when I showed you A dog's purpose," Mom comments, which shuts her up.

"It's okay, Lena," Grandma soothes.

"Can we go down to the beach?" Paxton asks.

"Yeah, can we?" I question.

"I'm old and have back problems, so I can't," Grandma says.

"I'm going to get a tan," Mom replies

"I'll go in with you two," Lena suggests.

"Last one's a rotten egg!!" I scream, running towards the beach.

"Cheater!!" Lena and Paxton yell, running after me.

I made it first, with Lena after me and then Paxton.

"You lost," I point to Aunt Lena

"And you're a rotten egg," I taunt Paxton.

"Yeah, because you're a filthy, dirty cheater!!" Paxton shouts at me, and I laugh.

"And what's your response, Aunt Lena?" I question, turning to look at her.

"Aunt Lena?" I question, not seeing her but seeing Paxton smirk.

"Why are you smirking?" I cautiously ask, and he points behind me.

I turn, and Aunt Lena's behind me.

"Don't you," I can't finish before I'm thrown into the water.

I resurface right away, panting heavily. I look over to see Paxton and Yelena laughing at me. I roll my eyes but call out to them.

"SORE LOSERS!!" I yell out to them.

Yelena turns towards me, running in my direction.

"Oh shit," I say, swimming away as fast as I could.

Eventually, she gets tired of chasing me and leaves me to myself. I float peacefully in the water until I'm taken under. I resurface quickly and see Mom next to me, smirking. I look at her with a betrayed look, and she shrugs before swimming back to the surface. I hear snickering behind me. I look behind me to see Aunt Lena and Paxton laughing at me.

"You guys suck," I tell them, swimming back to the surface.

"Are you mad?" Mom questions as I walk past her.

"No," I say, lying down next to Grandma.

"Are you mad?" Grandma asks, and I shake my head.

"You sure?" She questions.

"No, just tired," I reply.

"You want to go home, Pete?" Mom questions from the side.

"No, let them have their fun," I say, motioning to Lena and Paxton, who are having a sand competition.

"I'm sorry," Mom says.

"Nah, it's okay. I deserved it," I admit, looking over at Mom.

She holds out her hand, and I gladly take it. We lay here for 15 minutes before Lena and Paxton are ready to go home. Grandma drops us off at the house with Aunt Lena.

"This has been the best birthday ever," Mom admits as we walk towards the front door.

"Poser, you're such a sap," Aunt Lena mumbles from behind us.

"Can't help it," Mom shrugs.

"Bedtime when we get inside," Mom reminds us.

"30 minutes," I plead.

"30 minutes and then bedtime," She agrees.

"Proving my point even more, poser," Yelena says, closing the door behind us all.

"Do you want to go back with Mom?" Mom questions and Lena shakes her head.

"Thought so," Mom mumbles.

"I love you both," Mom says, kissing Paxton and me on the head.

"I love you too," Paxton and I say.
