"Daryl?" I call out after him

"What" he snaps turning to look at me

"Are you okay?" I say softly "I agree with your opinions. About Jim."

"Well it doesn't matter what we think. Only what the sherif dick does" he replied sharply. He sighed "I get that they care about him but there isn't any room here for them"

I look at him and nod "I may not know you guys very well. But I can read people very well and I can tell. If this group keeps moving in the direction it is it will fall apart."

"I kn-" he was cut off by a gunshot. We ran in the direction of the shot. We saw Andrea over Amy's body freshly crying.

"Shit" I mutter

Daryl and I load the truck with the bodies.  We drive to the holes. When we get there Shane and Rick are still digging.

"I still think it's a mistake not burning these bodies. That's what we said we'd do right? Wasn't that the idea?" Daryl says to Rick. I nod, I stay towards the back of the truck. I knew this wasn't my group and shouldn't get involved.

"At first" Shane replies simply

"Cap'in gets all emotional. Says it's not the thing to do, so what we all just follow them along?" Daryl retorts. I can see he is getting irritated. I can also see that Shane is over him.

Shane looks like the kind of guy that is 'shoot first think later'. He doesn't look like the calculated type. He looks and - what I've seen from him - acts like he has no emotion. Damon Salvatore would be proud.

"These people need to know who the hells in charge here" Daryl starts. Looking at the three men I can see that they are all on edge. "What the rules are"

"There are no rules" Rick speaks for the first time

"That's a problem" I say

"We haven't had one minuet to hold on to anything from our old selves" Lori speaks up and moves to stand next  to me. I take a step away from her. Out of the corner of my eye I can see Daryl smirking slightly. All heads snap to out direction "we need time to mourn. We bury our dead. It's what people do"

I look at Lori. Daryl opens his mouth to say something but I cut him off before he can start drama. "If we don't burn those things. We are all dead." Everyone turns to look at me so I continue "this world is no longer one for heartfelt funerals. This is you kill you move on."

"You have no emotions whatsoever." Lori accuses "You may be able to move on without guilt. And hurt. And even anger. But us - this group - can't."

"I live on my emotions I just know how to regulate them." I look at her. She's standing next to Rick. "You will soon learn Lori this world is not what it used to be. The weak are weeded out and the strong survive. Not just the physically strong but also mentally."

Lori just rolls her eyes and turns to Rick. "Funeral? Or no?" She puts him on the spot. But I can see that Rick loves his family more than anything. Will do anything to make them happy

"Y/n makes valid points" he says to Lori then to me "but we need to mourn"

I scoff. I hadn't noticed that Daryl had come to stand next to me until I walked to the driver seat of the Ute. I sat inside while they held their funerals. Even Daryl went out to pay his respects. I figured that not many - if any - like me, so I shouldn't be involved is such a heartfelt moment

Everyone buried their loved ones. Andrea buried Amy. She wouldn't take help from anyone. I respect that. She may be grieving but your anger and sadness are the emotions that show you at your core. If she is like this at her core - distant but still cares, still has emotions and is willing to do anything for her loved ones - I think her and I could be great friends

After the funerals we all make our way back to the main camp. I pick up my backpack. Daryl makes his way over

"What is your plan?" He asks while I pack the last bits of my stuff. "From now?"

"Survive. That's the plan. Survive" I reply not even looking at him until I throw my backpack over my shoulder

"Sounds like a good plan" he smirks "but are you staying or leaving"

"I'm pretty sure Lori would murder me in my sleep if I stayed" I give a small laugh "I don't think many people here like me very much"

"And I think you don't care what other people think" he says plainly "you are a good - strong - asset to the group."

I think over it. Food, water, shelter, semi-safe. People here are semi-trained. Group could use some reconstruction, but other than that it's good.

"Well?" He prompts "are you staying"

I hesitate "yeah. Okay. Fine yeah"

"Good" is all he says

"I've uh" Shane starts. All eyes turn to him "I've been thinking about Rick's plan. Now look there are no uh...there are no guarantees either way. I'll be the first one to admit that. I've known this man a long time" I roll my eyes and sit down. Daryl stands behind me. I lean back against his legs. Sharpening an arrow. Shane continues "I trust his instincts. I say the most important thing here is we need to stay together. So those of you that agree, we leave first thing in the morning. Okay?" Shane looks around and nods

I look up to Daryl. He looks down at me. "What do ya think" he asks me

"I think it's a death trap but..." I pause "that's what the world is now. It's a whole death trap." Daryl nods

"CDC it is then"
