Hades Papadopoulos (Άδης Παπαδόπουλος; Ádis Papadópoulos) was a Greek-American serial killer known as The Undertaker.

Hades was born on February 1st, 1808, in Greece in the infamous Papadopoulos family. He was among the youngest in the family, a triplet to Poseidon and Zeus Papadopoulos. He was the younger brother of Aphrodite, Hestia, Hera and Demeter Papadopoulos. If you want any information on Aphrodite Papadopoulos, go check out our sister podcast, Gone But Not Forgotten. He was two years old when his mother, Summer Adamos, died due to influenza.

Ten years later, Henry Papadopoulos, the father, is believed to have been murdered by Aphrodite, whom he sexually abused since the death of Summer, and the siblings left Greece and made their way to America. They all split up, making separate names for themselves, all names they have left written in blood.

Now, let's actually focus on Hades.

Hades was twelve when he came to America. For four years, he stuck with Zeus and Poseidon, doing odd jobs to make money, before they decided to split up when they were sixteen. Hades continued doing odd jobs until getting a job as a gravedigger when he was seventeen. So, for the next three years, Hades lived pretty normally. He got married to a woman named Susan Heffer when he was nineteen, though this would be short-lived.

When he was twenty, though due to unclear circumstances, Hades killed Susan. He hit her upside the head with a shovel and buried her in a field nearby, still alive. She was seven months pregnant at the time. And this awakened something in Hades; he loved how this felt. So, he would spend the next thirty years of his life, stalking young women in the dark. He would injure them severely before burying them alive. Many he raped beforehand. There were also several cases where he just straight up buried them alive without injuring them beforehand. He would then document it in his journal. He killed nearly eighty women, but only seventeen of the bodies were found and properly identified. These are the names of the known;

Susan Heffer
Mary Edwards
Vivienne Rockwell
Susan Casper
Josephine Meyers
Anne Berrycloth
Anna Brandon
Mary Carter
Margaret Rogers
Elizabeth Johnson
Elizabeth York
Nellie Bunch
Daisy Fields
Rose Fields
Jane Harryburg
Marie Henry
Clara Palmer

This earned him the nickname The Undertaker in the Albany area where Hades resided. In popular culture, he has also been called 'American Jack the Ripper' or 'Greek Jack the Ripper'.

He got in contact with his nephew, Eros, shortly after Aphrodite's death. They would exchange letters until Hades' death.

Hades died on November 1st, 1858 at the age of fifty due to an unnamed illness, now believed by medical historians to be botulism. His journal was discovered by Eros shortly thereafter.
