I looked at the boy in front of me, he was still staring out the window, and his eyebrows were lowered and knitted together. The sun had begun rising and there was a ray of sunlight shining on his face. I looked at him with newfound determination. For Cassius, Sylvia, and him, of course, I was going to help him survive. I was going to make sure he survived. He will see, and live out those sunny days.

"Your Highness, we've met multiple times but we haven't introduced ourselves yet." I smiled at him and then I bowed my head with a hand on my chest.

"My name is Romania Clark. As you already know, I worked with Sylvia at the restaurant. I'll be helping you get to your brother, so I hope we can take care of each other." My cheeks stayed risen. At this point, the sun had fully risen and the whole carriage was full of sunlight.

He didn't say anything but he just stared at me and looked back out the window again. I sighed, it really must be difficult for him. I looked down at the letter and necklace on my lap.

"Here." I looked up and Malakai, while still not looking at me, was giving me a handkerchief.

The corner of my lips grew and I began to feel the warmth of the sun. I took the handkerchief with thanks and a smile on my face.

"Don't worry, Your Highness. Sunny days are ahead of us."

MALAKAI

I looked at the lady in front of me with indifference. Even though she said that her eyes were tearing up and she had a runny nose. She could somehow smile even in a situation like this.

I turned back to the window. "Hm."

What she said to me was something that my mother and Sylvia used to always say a lot. Especially when we moved to the new place.

At the thought of both of them, a memory of my mother came to mind.

"Malakai, come on don't be so scared of the rain." My mother smiled at me as she held my hand.

"Come see." She took our joined hands and put them in the rain. My hands were getting cold and wet.

"I just don't like the rain," I mumbled.

She smiled at me again, pulling back our hands. "I know." She rubbed my head and then looked outside.

"But you know what I think about when I see it pouring like this?" She turned to me. "That surely a rainbow, paired with the bright sunshine is on its way!" She giggled as she pulled me into her warm embrace.

"Always remember that dark, rainy days don't last forever even if it feels that way." She kissed the top of my head.

And then the next morning there really was a rainbow and warm sunlight, almost like the one right now.

My mom smiled at me warmly and said "See, Malakai! I told you the sun would come out again!"

I clutched my cloak. I missed her so much. What I'd do to see her smile at me like that again.

She said that because she knew I only had bad memories of being in the rain. How me and her would be left in an abandoned room at the Royal Palace whenever it was raining, and the day we left the Royal Palace, it was raining too.

But she was right, after we left the Royal Palace, the years after were joyful.

My heart swelled. But they were all gone, along with those days.
