"Did someone say game?" Coco spurred, seeming to inexplicably appear out of nowhere. Accompanying her as she paraded down the sandy beach lawn was a small team of housing staff carrying our dinner on a contractable dining table.
"Perfect! Looks like we'll be able to eat and have fun at the same time." Coco proceeded, now walking over to Ahmad and planting a cheeky kiss on him.
"But, what game should we play? Considering, most of us are in relationships." Ahmad asked, as he searched around the group for validation.
He made a good point. I, for one, refused to take part in another Truth or Dare. Or, any other game of that nature. I turned towards Kendall, but his neutral expression failed to provide any amount of clarity to the bottled emotions he normally kept shielded from most.
"Hmm...let's see. How about...Never Have I Ever?" Margot suggested, crossing her arms against her chest as she stared challengingly at me.
What was her problem?
"Oh, that's a good one! And we should probably add a little spin to it...whoever has the most fingers left by the end of the game has to perform a dare." Coco added, gaining numerous echoes of approval from the house guests while I internally shook my head.
Not wanting to damper the party spirit, I chose to remain silent. Perhaps, participating in the game would actually be a good thing. I mean, I'd get to know more about Kendall, particularly when it came to all the lewd activities he had or had not done before meeting me.
After the housing staff set down the dining table, we took a brief hiatus to select our food options from the decadent arrangement of Bahamian dishes placed neatly onto the four-cornered table. I packed my plate with more food than I could probably eat, then returned to my seat only to find that Kendall had been swept away to sit amongst his boys.
I was now settled beside a Latina woman, who I'd hardly regard as the friendliest nor kindest of the bunch. Eventually, Coco found her way to me, sitting down at an open space on my beach chair. I immediately released a steady breath, already feeling relaxed from having my best friend at my side.
"Okay, I'll start. Never have I ever...slept with a woman." Justin's wife, Candace, didn't hesitate to begin the game with a heated statement, causing every man in the circle to drop a finger—along with some of the women. Coco was surprisingly one of them.
"What, Sasha? C'mon, don't look at me like that. You know I had a very short experimental phase in college." She explained, while I held in a laugh. I'd have to inquire more about the experience from her at a later time.
"I'll go next! Um, let's see—never have I ever...done anal." Coco continued, causing several people to snort at the very unrestrained statement.
Shockingly, another one of Kendall's fingers went down. I stared at him curiously, trying to settle between my repulsion and piqued nosiness at the thought of who he'd shared the experience with and how long ago it had occurred.
When he sensed my lingering gaze, he narrowed his eyes cautiously at me, then sent me an unchaste wink. The motion was quickly washed away by a suggestive smirk, which caused my legs to cross and my thighs to press tightly together.
I didn't wonder long about the curious circumstances surrounding the experience, when one of Margot's dainty skeleton fingers also lowered. She passively stole a glance at Kendall who was rested beside her, though he didn't seem to notice her needy stare. I, on the other hand, cautiously took the scene in while slowly beginning to connect the dots.
"I think a guy should go next." Candace suggested, now turning towards her husband—Justin.
"Really, Candace? Way to put me on the fucking spot. Okay fine, if that's what you want. Never have I ever cheated on my partner." He said, and a pervasive silence rang through the tropical air.
Daringly, I glanced at Kendall and noticed that he'd dropped another finger. This time, he didn't make eye contact with me, though I knew he could feel my hazel orbs on him.
Interesting. I'd have to table this discussion for after the game. I wasn't mad at him for his past infidelity. But, I was, more so, curious to know what his reasons were for doing it.
The game carried on for another forty minutes with a streamline of less invasive questions coupled with several off-topic discussions, until it was finally Jasper's turn to go.
"Never have I ever fucked someone in this circle." He boasted triumphantly, finding pride in his big reveal as if he were somehow deserving of a Nobel Prize for managing to accomplish such a difficult feat.
In my mind, I didn't want to look Kendall's way, but my eyes seemed to take on a conscious of their own. Lo and behold, another one of the man's fingers had lowered. When Margot's finger also lowered, I couldn't help the pitching annoyance that began to sprout throughout my body.
"You remember, Kendall. Don't you?" Margot purposefully hollered aloud, all while offering him a pearly white smile and placing her dainty hand along his toned thigh. He stiffened at the mention, now returning a dangerous glare in her direction, which caused her snooty attitude to shift fairly quickly.
But, it was too late because I'd already seen the interaction and was officially done playing the game. At this point, I'd had enough of looking stupid. Be it overbearing or not, I had a right to know whether I'd be around any one of Kendall's former sexual partners prior to arriving on this trip.
At this point, the man had fucked more than half of Manhattan. And, I no longer wished to parade around like I was some kind of fool. If he didn't respect me enough to tell me these kinds of things beforehand, then I'd make the responsible decision to step away from the situation altogether for the time being.
"I think I'm going to call it a night." I announced to the group, before rising from my chair.
Taking a moment to dust the sand off my dress, I tried to let my brewing anger dissipate. But, my actions were useless, because my frustration only seemed to intensify. Instead, I motioned towards Kendall and left him with three undeservingly harsh words.
"Don't follow me." His eyebrow rose in confusion, but he didn't say a word.
