Tom's eyes gleamed, "Ah, that's where it gets interesting. To counter a Cockatrice, one must avoid direct eye contact. Instead, you can use a reflective surface, like a mirror, to deflect its gaze back at itself. This will temporarily stun the creature, giving you a chance to escape or neutralize the threat."

I nodded, absorbing the information. "It's like turning their own power against them. But what if we don't have a mirror handy?"

Tom's lips curled into a mischievous smile. "Well, in that case, you can try using a charm to create a temporary shield or even a quick Disillusionment Charm to make yourself less visible. The key is to disrupt the Cockatrice's focus and buy yourself enough time to escape."

I couldn't help but be impressed by Tom's extensive knowledge and his ability to think on his feet. "You really have a knack for this, Riddle. It's like you were born to study and master the dark arts."

He chuckled softly, a hint of pride in his voice. "I suppose you could say that. The dark arts have always fascinated me. There's so much power and potential within them, waiting to be harnessed."
