Part 4: Interesting Study Session

Start from the beginning

Once we entered the library, Tom wasted no time in finding the perfect secluded spot, hidden from prying eyes. He placed his stack of books on the table and, with an air of authority, ordered me to sit there.

As he left momentarily to fetch additional books, I took a moment to absorb the quiet ambience of the library. It was a haven of knowledge and secrets, a place where countless generations of witches and wizards had come to seek wisdom.

Tom returned to the table, settling in front of me. His gaze, unwavering and intense, locked onto mine for a full minute, a gesture that sent a shiver down my spine.

How many more staring games are we going to have with each other??? Come on, if you have something to say, just speak, please.

Breaking the silence, he finally spoke, his tone measured and inquisitive. "What subject would you like to focus on today?"

Did it take you that long to ask such a simple question? Well, I actually don't mind which subject he wants to study first, since he's the one suggesting, he should be the one leading the study session too, no?

I simply shrugged in response, my curiosity piqued by his choice of topics.

Tom sighed a hint of exasperation in his demeanour and shook his head. It seemed he had taken it upon himself to select our subject for the day, and without further ado, he declared, "Defense Against the Dark Arts."

Out of all the subjects we took this year, he decided to pick DADA. Hmm, sure, why not?

I raised an eyebrow, a playful smile tugging at my lips. "Ah, so you want to teach me how to defend myself against your dark arts, huh? Trying to keep me on my toes, Riddle?"

Tom smirked, his eyes glinting with mischief. "Oh, you underestimate me. I'm merely ensuring that you're well-prepared for any challenges that may come your way. Besides, it's always good to have a few tricks up your sleeve, don't you think?"

There's something odd between the word 'dark arts' with Tom Riddle himself, as if it has a different meaning to him than just a subject we took as a student, that smirk on his face is alarming, but I'll let it slide for now.

I chuckled, unable to resist his charm. "Well, if anyone knows about tricks, it's certainly you. Lead the way, Professor Riddle."

With a smirk and a nod, he flipped through the pages of a particularly ancient and worn book, his eyes scanning the text with a focused intensity.

"Have you ever heard of a Cockatrice?"

I furrowed my brow, racking my brain for any knowledge I might have on the subject. "Hmm, I think I've heard the name before, but I can't quite recall what it is."

Tom's lips curled into a knowing smile. "Well, let me enlighten you then. A Cockatrice is a creature that resembles a small dragon or a rooster with a serpent's tail. It has the ability to turn its victims to stone with a single gaze."

My eyes widened in fascination. "Isn't that similar to a Basilisk?"

Tom nodded, "Indeed, they share some similarities. Both the Cockatrice and the Basilisk possess the power to petrify their victims. However, there are some key differences. While a Basilisk is a massive serpent, the Cockatrice is smaller and more agile. Additionally, the Basilisk's gaze is lethal, while the Cockatrice's gaze only petrifies temporarily."
