"I didn't ask him push me out of the way and take the bullet for me," I say coolly.
"No, but if you had a little bit of spacial fucking awareness of your surroundings then my brother wouldn't be in that fucking surgery room," he snaps. "Some lousy fucking mafia Don you are, not even able to realise the danger you're in and going off with the fucking fairies!" he shouts.
"I'm sorry I don't have eyes at the back of my head," I say sarcastically.
"No, but if he dies you'll have a bullet there," Griffon says coldly, standing up and walking away.
"It's not your fault," Gabriel says quietly, "He's just scared,"
"He's right though, I should've been more aware of everything," I mutter, running my hands down my face.
"But he's not kidding," Ari chuckles dryly, "You better pray to whatever god you believe in that Ev survives. Otherwise you're a dead man,"
My eyebrows shoot up at his statement but he just shakes his head.
I look up as I hear footsteps, watching as a red-eyed Anastasia walks into the waiting room and sitting next to Ari.
He whispers something to her and puts an arm around her shoulders, kissing the top of her head.
"Where the hell did Leonardo get those fucking men, they were better than anyone we ever worked with," Gabriel groans, rubbing his eyes with the palms of his hands.
"Who fucking knows," Anastasia mutters, sniffing as she closes her eyes and rests her head on Ari's shoulder.
Alessio sighs and sits down beside me, Dad frowning and sitting across from us, next to Gabriel.
"How long has he been in there for?" Alessio asks in a hoarse voice, immediately clearing his throat.
"They took him in as soon as we got here," Ari murmurs, and I try to tear my gaze away from Anastasia.
I've never seen her look so miserable, even when I found her on our footstep, shot and bleeding to death, or when she came into my room the other night. She looks so small.
We must sit in the waiting room for hours, no one saying a word as we all impatiently wait for someone to come and tell us that Everett will be ok.
But no one comes, leaving us sitting here not knowing what's happening.
Ari grunts and stands up, walking into the bathroom as Anastasia sleepily lifts her head. Her tired eyes grow cold as she looks at me, resting her face in her hands as I look over to a frowning Alessio.
"I'm sorry," I say quietly, the gravity of the situation setting in.
She simply shakes her head, not lifting her face from her hands.
"Just leave it," Alessio murmurs, pulling my shoulder back.
I'm almost surprised to see Griffon walk back into the room, taking the seat beside Anastasia as he ignores everyone else. Ari soon comes back, hugging Anastasia back to his side as he sits down.
Everyone's heads snap up as soft footsteps approach, a flustered nurse walking into the room.
"Is he ok?" Griffon immediately asks, standing up and looking at the woman.
She sighs and pauses momentarily, "I'm so sorry, but it's, it's not looking good," she says in a gentle voice.
I watch as Griffon's face falls, his eyes widening before his jaw locks.
"You're a dead fucking man De Santis," he whispers, turning before lunging at me as I immediately bolt to my feet.
Both Ari and Gabriel immediately grab him, pulling him back as he tries to get to me.
"I'm going to fucking kill you!" he shouts, trying to pull away from Ari and Gabriel.
My feet remain cemented to the floor as I watch horrified.
If Everett dies it's because of me.
I vowed to always protect my family, and although Le Aquile Rosse are far from that, I still feel guilt washing over me.
"Sir, do I need to call security?" the nurse croaks out.
Griffon stands up and shrugs off Ari and Gabriel' hands, clearing his throat and turning to face the nurse.
"I can assure you sir, we have our best doctors and surgeons looking after your brother," the nurse smiles.
"Can I see him?" Griffon asks.
"We'll only accept family, but yes," she says pleasantly.
"You guys go home, we'll take it from here," Gabriel says, looking at Dad who nods.
I watch as Le Aquile Rosse and Anastasia follow the nurse, my feet making no indication of moving.
"Enzo let's go," Dad says, his voice tired.
I shake my head, "I'm not leaving until they do, this is my fault, and I'm not going to leave like a pussy," I say bitterly, sitting back down.
"There's nothing I can say to get you to come with us, is there?" Dad says sadly, sighing as I shake my head.
"He'll be ok," Dad says, putting his hand on my shoulder.
I shake my head again, looking straight ahead. "I don't believe that Everett will just give up, watch him scare the shit out of us just to get better," he says in a light tone.
I chuckle dryly, praying that he's right. "I'll update you if anything happens," I say, rubbing the back of my neck.
"Try to get some sleep. Your Mother will kill me if she finds you sleep deprived," Dad says, patting my shoulder before he turns and walks out of the waiting room.
"Aren't you going home?" I ask, looking up at Alessio.
"Nah," he sighs, "I can't let you rough this out on your own,"
I smile as he sits down beside me, leaning back in his chair.
Please Everett, be ok.
